| I have a reel and rod(9')that works good for D-10's and larger stuff. I have a Tranx 400 that I use for burning D-8's and staggered 8-9's,etc, and smaller. I bought a 10' Tackle Industries MH Telecopic this year to try a 10' rod, in their lightest MH rating, for this Tranx. I love the length, but I have lost a couple larger fish in which I did not think I could control the fish as well as I would have with my 9' stiffer T.I. rod. These two hit by the boat, and it seemed like I struggled more to bring the fight to the fish right away and they came unpinned. I did catch a 38"er on it, and seemed like the rod was pretty light for that also. I realize maybe I have to learn how to fight fish differently with this lighter rod that what I am used to with the heavier rods. But, I am heading back up to LOTW in a couple weeks and I am seriously thinking on buying another rod, still probably 9'-6" or 10', just stiffer, like I am used to. I thought the lighter longer rod might fling the smaller baits farther, but my stiffer shorter rod does it as good. I want to keep the length for figure 8's. Looking for brand and model recomendations that have worked for you with 9'-6" to 10' lengths for this type of application. Want to spend around 150-300 bucks. Thanks! |

Location: Canada | I used the 10' TI XH with a Tranx 400 for mag 8 blades this summer and found it perfect. Any bigger than 8s and I'd say the tip a little soft for figure eighting. |

| I know its out of your listed price range.....but my hands down favorite bucktail rod is a 9"6" Thorne Bros Predator Heavy -2 with a revolution reel seat. I have used this with 8/9 combos and it feels perfect. I also used a one piece TI Pro XH 9' with the revolution reel seat that is not to bad either it is just a bit softer in the tip. |

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | For smaller blades like that I have a Thorne predator 9’10” heavy-2 which is perfect for 8’s. I also have been using a chaos 2020 shock and awe 10’ which is a super versatile rod, have thrown little blades up to super models on it and felt perfect |

Location: Mississippi | I use the 8'6' MHF Long Ranger for my smaller bucktails, from double 8's under 2oz to the smaller single blade bucktails. It is also great for 8" under minnow baits. I do pair with Shimano Tranx 300 HG to burn the bucktails.
I use the 8'6" HF Sling Blade for bigger bucktails , topwater, jerkbaits and less than 8oz rubber baits. I do pair with Shimano Tranx 400A with power handle to bring them bigger bucktails in with ease and speed.
I can cast the two combos all day long with relative ease.
Great One - Two punch for Musky fishing. I paid right at $325 each for the rods. Big and Nasty is also great rod at 9'! |

Location: PA Angler | Just to throw this out there if your buying a new rod. It helps having a heavy rod for power but it also needs a good speed to it (action). The slower the better. |

Keep in mind, on the muskie fishing skill & knowledge curve, I am a lot closer to being Howard Sprague than Dick Pearson, and haven't come close to catching "Old Sam" for over 20 yrs........... |

I like the rod alot, I think it is a little light for D-10's in the eight, I would switch to my stiffer rod when I was throwing 10's and larger. If you want a more all-around rod, and want to stay with Chaos, I would go to the Shock and Awe |
