Location: Pewaukee | I’m wondering how the Musky shop house brand rods compare to St Croix blanks. For example, they make a 8’6” H 2-8 oz and I have a Legend Sling blade with the save specs. I realize that the legend is in a totally different league, but how do the Musky Shop rods “feel” compared to St Croix? Softer? Faster? Is it a true 2-8oz or does it act more like a MH? |

Location: Brighton CO. | I have not seen a Musky Shop rod in person, but I do own a Thorne Brothers Predador and it's my understanding that it is a St. Croix blank. (I think I asked them) So I guess you could ask them? |

Location: Land of the Musky | If you have the money, get a St Croix or Elk River custom and never look back. With that said, I have never heard bad things about the Musky Shop rods and Jim always takes care of his customers from what I hear.... |

Location: Pewaukee | In the legend line I have 2 Sling blades and a lipstick. I saw a Musky Shop rod fairly cheap and was thinking about trying it out or having it in the boat for another person to use. |

| For what it is worth, bought a 9'6" Musky Shop rod for throwing blades this spring. Really like it a lot. But, I don't have a St. Croix to compare it to. |

Location: Chicago, IL | The Musky Shop Shield Series are way heavier than a St Croix Premier and certainly heavier than a LT blank. I’m used to St. Croix rods. Picked up a Musky Shop 8’6” H, it’s been alright but it’s heavier than I prefer- pretty noticeable difference. They are well build though and I like the palm reel seat instead of trigger reel seat |

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota | I have a friend who owns a shield rod, tried it a couple days ago and it is incredibly heavy. If you are looking for a less expensive rod in that price range the savage gear battletek is incredible for the price and same price range as a shield. I own a 9’ xh and it’s just about on par weight wise to a legend tourney 9’ h. Any other cheaper rod I’ve used is much heavier. That savage gear 9” xh is a super versatile rod. I wouldn’t buy a st croix unless it’s a legend tourney or extreme, their lower priced rods aren’t great for the price. If you want the best rod, get a Thorne predator of a legend elite, if you want quality per dollar get the savage gear battletek |
