Just for the halibit I was wondering how many casts do you think that you actually make( musky fishing only ) during a musky season? My guess for most if you really figure it out its alot less then one thinks. For example last season kept track of the wife and she did less than 10,000 for the season with 3 fish, so her odds are say 1 fish for every 3000 casts which would take her appox. 1 month. My season average was?????????Well lets say you won`t beleive me! What about you?????????????

3-4 hours. ill keep track of my casts the first time i can get out. youre right its probably more. my routine is, i go into the bay fish it for an hour off and on. ill sit down and break a few times during that hour. regardless of what happens, fish or no fish, ill leave after that hour, go fish smallmouths 300 yards down the river for an hour then go back to the spot. i repeat this process throughout the day. the spot i fish is only a 6 acre bay off the river. ill see 5-8 fish a day in the summer. catch 2-4.

O.K. here it go`s, this is as close as I can get. Last season was appox. 250,000 casts divided by 72 = 3,472 casts per fish and for myself 1000 to 1500(on a good day) casts per day! My guess would be most anglers are not getting those kind of casts. If only fishing weekands all season a midway avverage will be about 40,000 to 45,000 casts a season.

So if it is 10,000 per fish,I should have caught 25 fish last season.A hare better then average!

I posted this same question on the MH board and the basic answer came back the fish of 1,000 casts for those of us who know what we are doing. Then the next interesting question that was raised was how many hours trolling per musky? Then the real question was asked, how many casts per 50" plus musky?

Great questions for all of us to ponder!

Just how many cast per hour? I would think I am good for 100 cast per hour including time to change lures and moving around and boating fish. Now that's fast moving lures as jerkbaits may be a lot less. So that gives me 1000 cast on a 10 hour day with a 2 fish avg so that's like only 500 cast per fish. Now this would mean only 5000 cast for a 50+ incher. Wow that sounds unrealistic doesn't it.

How many cast per hour should the average fisherman get?

Now when it comes to trolling I guess you may want to count miles per fish. So it should be the fish of 500 miles or 10 000 casts.
