| Do you make your own or purchase a system? Which one do you buy? How do you go about making your own?
Thanks,

Location: Holly, MI | You could always drill holes in some Quarters and screw them into the butt cap. I can't see adding any more weight to my casting arm. I pay too much for light rods. |

Location: Wishin I Was Fishin' | I am a firm believer in rod balancers. JLong got me started on them a few years ago. I never would have thought they were worth anything either unless I was able to use the one he had done. I use the Bass Pro shop ones, the ones that screw in. I just drill a hole in the handle for the screw. I also use large shrink sleeving to go over the whole works to permently secure it. The added weight of the rod doesn't add to fatigue. Once you try it and don't have to hold the end of your rod up all day, you will be sold. If you palm your reel that should be the center of balance. If you grip it in front of the reel that should be the center. The reason light rods are better is because the actual rod blank weighs less and you have less tip weight and less balance weight to add. Hope this helps.

Location: Bagley,MN 56621 | I have seen Jomusky's set up and it works good. I have Normark rod balancers (from Thornes) on all my rods and although they work well at less fatigue, they can be a pain sometimes (esp getting them ON the rod butts), but they do tend to come loose and the quarters will rattle, esp when working shallow raiders quite aggressively.
having the shrink sleeve over the top of the balancer and a ways up the rod butt keeps everything tight and not come loose.
You wont believe the difference in working say like a glide bait all day...much much easier on the wrists.

| I use the Normark ones as well. They really help reduce fatigue with big baits for me.
I dont ever plan to take them off so I take and epoxy the weights in the sleeve and then epoxy the sleeve to the rod butt. Put a little shrink tube over it for aesthetics and you are set. That thing aint goin' anywhere. |

| I use the BPS ones on all of my rods. Though I have been known to weight some of my spinning rods by cutting off the butt cap and weighting them internally with lead.
I'm the only unbalanced thing in my boat.
