Pleasure boat traffic already sucks. Four fatalities in May...one jet ski, one teenage swimmer and two boaters have drowned. That's only the ones I know about. But I digress... |

Location: SW Ohio | What a crazy day yesterday was. Spent about 11 hours on the water. Despite the heat we have had over the last couple of weeks, a cold front and hard rains dropped the water temps by 4-5 degs to a moderate 77 in most paces. Lows at night were in the upper 50s which helped out immensely.
I can’t say I’ve ever experienced a day like this before. Hooked five, netted two, lost three. Missed five others due to missed hook sets, the way they hit it or being tired/distracted. One hard strike about broke my little finger on my reel hand due to the way I had it under the trigger. Still hurts today. Had an incredible 7-8 follows with three going into figure 8’s. Got the first one but not the other two. Most of the fish were mid-upper 30s. The two bagged were 37” and 35”. Two that I lost were on back to back casts with a 22 short cast around a large bait ball. May have been the same fish, IDK. Other than those two, all the others came on different crank baits. Shallow raider, shad rap, J13, 22 SS all brought up fish.
Pretty nuts and wild day. Our lakes are stocked and this one stratifies this time of year. Keeps the fish in the top 15’ of water. The main lake is overrun with ski, wake board boats and jet skis. Only the coves offer a respite from that madness. This year, the baitfish are in the coves more than years past.
I’ll get a couple pics posted up once I download them from my phone. |
