| I bought a seichi disk late last year with the intent to determine light penetration on certain lakes. The thought being I might change some presentations according to the results. Has anyone else been playing with a 'disk' |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Years back I played with one for a bit back in the early 90's when I logged everything eventually went to a white enamel cup on a knotted string. The log showed me that I caught far more fish on a firetiger suick than on a seichi disk or a cup and all my fish came from wet places on days ending in "Y" . I wouldn't mind reading my old log but have no way to open a 5 inch floppy that flops |

| Never met anyone who used it to help with fishing, but one of my neighbors takes reading as part of a study on the chain where we both live. He fishes but he has never mentioned it being of any value for that. I mean, I can tell when the lake is darker/clearer than normal by looking at my baits, seeing how far down I can see the baits. |

Location: Brighton CO. | Years ago I bought this little probe for next to nothing and got me thinking so started digging thru my Stuff after seeing this post and I found it. It's a "Color, Sound Lure Guide" by Environmental Concepts Model CS3050. It's a little box that looks like a battery tester I built in High School has a little arrow on a meter that moves depending on the water color. It has a 50 foot covered wire down to the probe. And comes with a booklet. I think I bought it when I first got to Colorado 30 years ago and the date on the back of the booklet is 1985. Put a new Battery in and it still works. |

Kinda reminds me of the "Color C Lector" from the early '80s.. |

Location: MN | I have one in the boat to gather data for the MPCA. It's not of much use in real time for fishing because you can just see how deep the weeds are growing.
In general it helps knowing this information for scouting and planning. The depth limit for photosynthesis is roughly 2x secchi depth, so that is a good guess for weed edge depth. Before heading to a new lake in MN, I go here
https://webapp.pca.state.mn.us/cmp/stations
and check the history of secchi depth readings. Then I go to Navionics and adjust the depth shading to the best guess at weed edge depth and you can see how the weed edge is likely to lay out. If people report catching fish around that depth in the lunge log, well you probably have a reasonable place to start. |
