OK, here's the deal...

I have flat-bottom, shallow (less than 6 ft) , eutrophic lakes around here.  Obviously, they get pretty weedy in the summer.   I've decided to try jigging for Northerns (yeah, I know...) this year.

What jig head design(s), weights & hooks would be best for bucktail & creatures?

Thanks, y'all!

BS

Diamond head jigs in 1/3 ounce with a 6" creature superglued to the jig carrying a 4/0 to 5/0 hook. Pictures tomorrow when it isn't so late. Sue would whoop on me if I started banging around in the tackle boxes right now. Pike EAT them!!

I use a stand up Reaper head with 4/0 or 5/0 hook and a 4" black reaper seems to work great. Also use a 1/4 oz or 3/8 oz weedless head with wide gap 4/0 with a black red tinsel skirt and a 6" lizard. These should work pretty well. Black red tinsel for stained to dirty water, black blue tinsel for any thing a little bit clearer. If the water gets churned up by traffic or wave action try a motor oil/red flake lizard. The fish seem able to really see that color.
I have just started tossing a 4" to 5" tube in the shallows. Good results so far. I am using a pumpkin green/red flake tube with a few of the tails dyed chartreuse. 5/0 wide gap Gamakatzu super line hook with just the leader as weight. Just something new to try.
