| alright- I haven't played on the muskie boards enough this winter- too busy ice fishing... - would anyone care to update me on the "must-have" new lures for the up-coming season? I missed out on the drop-belly glider craze last year- so I definitely need a couple of those for the box in May... and is the mepps marabou still the hottest bucktail lately? any new crankbaits/topwaters that I need to know about?
your help is greatly appreciated! looking forward to the 2004 muskie season! hope it is much better than last year's season! |

Location: Pelican Lake/Three Lakes Chain | I am a big fan of the new Mepps Marabou. It is a bait that started putting fish in the boat for me last year already. It is without a doubt the most versatile marabou out there due to the Mepps split ring design. Try that marabou behind the Mepps Magnum blade--I think you will like the results.
A new twitch bait on the market this year that I like the looks of is the DD. The shallower running cousin of the DDD looks like it will have all kinds of shimmy for shallow water twitching. |

He also has a new topwater called the Rat that is like nothing else on the water. It is amazing that Roger came up with a new topwater design, with all the manufacturers out there. Oh ya, it catches fish too! |

Location: Pardeeville, WI | I just picked up the 9" Wileys jointed musky king. Does anyone know if this is a new lure? The bait is gigantic! It is the same exact size as my 10 inch trinity musky special. The finish on it is awesome. I also noticed this bait has slit rings! My headshaker didnt have split rings.

I got a few of them last August and when the gales of October and November came around I put a lime green giant killer blade on the black/chart marabou tail and the fish just would not leave that bait alone!! Can't wait to toss around the cisco pattern twin tail on a few of the local ponds. I can't wait to toss around DA RAT from H2O tackle, Roger bless his soul set me and my bro up with a proto and they are really HOT!!!!!!!! |

Other than that I can't wait to use the Nitro by H2O tackle, as well as some of his other baits! |

Location: Appleton, WI | I follow the Mantra also....Mepps Maribou, Mepps Maribou, Mepps Maribou...ya got the picture. I will definitely exploit this bad boy to the extreme this coming year. Know of a few guys that pounded the heck out of the fish with it in the late summer and early fall.
Hopefully MuskyE will have a few drop belly and cigar shaped gliders that I can give a test drive this coming year. I also believe he's got something else in the works that could be a dynamite trolling bait that may put a couple pigs from the "Bay" in the boat.
Might try to make a couple rubber baits thanks to my buddy across the big pond for showing me how to make some molds in creating my own creations. You know who you are...Thanks a ton!!
Got a few crankbaits made by a gentleman from "down south". I bought a couple from ebay that look pretty promising. You may know the seller by the name of Hawaii's best. His paint jobs are awesome. Those boys down there really now how to paint up a tough looking bait. The true test is how they run when cranking and trolling. From what I've heard(Thanks Todd M for the insight) they really thump. Some of the Twitch Style baits will definitely make some laps around the pool. I gotta feeling they're gonna score on the musky babes

Location: W. PA. | Btpf, If the bait has split rings it's not the king, It's a new bait that is a bit fatter. Some people around here have been calling it the Kawalski, but I don't know if it's been officially named yet. Sure looks nice in the water though! Could you let me know who has them, I'd like to pick up a few more.

They just got a shipment in Saturday. All kinds of sizes and different colors.
This bait is sweet. I will post a picture if I can in a few minutes.
I tossed in a headshaker and a 10" believer for comparison.
Your right though, I measured it and it is 10 inches.

Location: Bangor Maine | Man you fellas need to do a little research from bait makers in West Virginia, for starters the drop belly making god of all time is a fellow Named Bill Looney, he has been making them since 1973 and his glides have about a million 50 inch plus sore faced fish that has fallen victim to the Amma Bama, this guy is the closest gaurded secret in the biz but Im blowing the whistle he's due. Theres another cat who makes the most unbelieveable crankbaits you have ever seen but he doesnt make that many and there hard to come by, they have hands down the best action I have ever seen in a crank and I got'em all, there called Juggernaut Boomerangs. I know for sure the Amma Bama guy has an e-mail address its [email protected] the Juggernaut guy Im not so sure of but I think its [email protected] if you can contact this guy you have hit the jackpot. I nailed 2 over 48 inches in 2 days with them. (Thank you uncle Ray for sending it to me, I love ya.) |
