| There are so many factors to take into consideration. Weather conditions, water temperature, which could always be changing. Water clarity, is it a deep or shallow lake, or perhaps a river. Fishing pressure as well. But, I'll give it a try. Cool spring with cold slowly warming water temps, small minnow bait. Warm spring, a small bucktail such as a musky killer. Early summer, standard size bucktail but on a cloudy day, a topraider or tallywacker. I'll use the same baits during summer. Fall, I'll move to a glider like a manta,my fav. But, if its windy, I like a jointed crankbait such as a shallow raider or storm jointed flatstick. . Kdawg |

Location: Northern Illinois | I like the Mepps Musky Killers, 5-6 inch Crane, Cobb or Slammer Minnows and a large Berkley Choppo or Talley Wacker if it's warm.
I've already been practicing for next year with Spring Dawgs and Micro Medussa's on a light 8 1/2' rod ripping them up and getting them to hang right in the strike zone. I'm also thinking that this is something I can do all day long as I get older (over 60 now). |

August/September - bucktails and topwater.

| Opening day starts with Cowgirls and 10” Suicks followed 10” Jakes. I never understood the small bait thing. Early spring, probably see bait fish numbers at their yearly lowest number and their largest average size so I throw big baits. Just my ideas for LOTW. It also worked for me in Vilas Co Wisconsin and the U P in Michigan.

Location: SW Ohio | Depends on what the lakes are like. Normal winter pool or high and muddy? Generally start back up in March so it's a crap shoot on how the lakes are around here. Our local lake may be 5-6' higher than normal or it could be at it's normal -3' until they fill it back up in April. Last year, Cave was up 20-25' in March and very muddy. Trolling was about the only option that was working for the guides and even then it wasn't a guarantee.
Bass crankbaits are the first I throw along with downsized bucktails like Mepps. I'll be pitching bass jigs on a new rod setup this year so we'll see how that goes. Our factory is shutdown this coming week but the are dropping to single digits with snow forecast. I'll be fishing from my couch. |

Location: Brighton CO. | Opener Bomber fat free shad (beefed up spit rings and triple grip hooks) on home made down sized leader and Northland tackle bass sized spinnerbait with arm cut down like a mini Grinder.
And if fishing a deep clear lake 9-"10" minnow baits out over deep water.
June Home made marabou or wizz stye bucktail or a flaptail.
Again big minnow bait on deep lake.
Summer same minnow baits along with countdown cranks and big rubber and last but not least weighted bucktail.
Pre turnover Bobbie, Eddie or spinnerbait.
Fall Rubber, cranks, and jerks! |

| I am in the camp of, what are conditions like? Sometimes in the northern zone here in WI, ice has only been gone for a couple weeks, water is cold, little weed growth. Other times water has warmed, good weed growth, etc.
I tend to start the season throwing smaller baits but have had success on opening weekend throwing 8" or 9" minnow baits as well. Also fish whatever bait I am throwing a little slower than I would later. |

| I like to throw smaller bucktails, gliders, topwaters, and jigs. Turns out I throw very similar stuff all year until later in the fall. |
