Location: New Jersey | I am looking to possibly upgrade my bow mount trolling motor. Been running the cable drive maxxum 74 thrust for the last 18 years and getting older and tired of standing on one foot most of the day. Looking to stay with Minn Kota but switch to electronic steering.
What model would you get and why? Any reason to stay away from a particular model?
I run a 2004 Lund Explorer 1600 SS and prefer to be over powered so likely an 80 thrust, 24v.
Seems my options are Ulterra or Terrova. I have been a Lowrance guy but will likely upgrade electronics to whichever works better with the unit.
Any info is appreciated, thx!

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | The Ultrex is faster than either of your other choices. Steering is electronic, really quick and positive, and the pedal is 'balance friendly'. I have mine linked to the One Boat network, and the remote works perfectly. Most of the Bass pros run the Ultrex. |

Location: Chisholm, MN | Between the ulterra and terrova you have pros and cons. Ulterra is going to give you more problems but it's easy on your back. Terrova is usually a bullet proof trolling motor but you have to do a little work lifting it up. Ulterra does not work well in freezing temps, but if you don't fish in the cold then that's a great solution. Ultrex would be great too I think but i have no experience with it.

| Whichever one you go with, get the i-Pilot Link, to network with your new Himminbirds. The follow the contour feature is a dream. Set it and start casting. Don't have to touch it. |
