I have a 2003 Tuffy Esox Magnum Tiller. It came with the Tuffy matched trailer. I have moved the boat as far back as I can on the trailer and I still can't reduce the tongue weight enough. It is almost impossible to push it back into the garage and turn it at the same time. The dolly wheel just skids sideways and will not turn. Has anyone else had this problem. My 1993 with a K-Dee trailer did not do this? Thanks for your help.

Bassin, be careful when moving the boat to the rear of any trailer. You are increasing the likelyhood of bringing the lower unit of your outboard in contact with the ground when passing over uneven terrain. Also keep in mind that as you load your boat with fuel and supplies you may very well cause the center of gravity to be behind the axle of your trailer. Either scenario is not good. Maybe you just need a higher quality dolly wheel at the jack.

Sounds like you need a new dolly.

yup i agree, new dolly.( i assume you mean tongue jack?)

DONT move the boat back on the trailer, especilaly if it was set up like that at first.
Your trailer could pop off the ball if too much weight is towards the back of the trailer..lifting the tongue of the ball.....not good to have that happen.

does that jack have a gerase zerk on it ?...some do

good luck

Boat position on the trailer should be pretty well defined by Tuffy on this package, with the number out there since they went to the TuffTrails. Tongue weight should be around the minimum 10% of the total weight of the rig to get good towing results. Any less than this will probably result in trailer sway at highway speeds. If your rig weighs around 2500 lbs. you'll want approximately 250 lbs on the tongue. You can check this with a bathroom scale.

As for the dolly wheel not turning, I am not so sure excessive tongue weight is causing this. I have a lot more tongue weight than that, and my dolly turns fine. On my last boat, which was much, much lighter, I had the same problem. Replaced the dolly, and problem solved. But the dolly wheel had a flat spot worn in it. Perhaps it is sticking?

As far as hitting the lower unit, this should not be a problem if your using a motor toter.

Guy's,

Thanks for the feedback. I only moved it back to where the bunks still stuck out and the transom of the boat is directly over the rear cross member( about 3"). That didn't even make any difference at all. When I get the boat out of storage I will grease the shaft and also replace the wheel.

You wouldn't think you would have to do this with a brand new boat. It's done this since the day I got it. It's really a pain to push it in the garage myself. I had a 19' Ranger bass boat that pushed easier.

Again....Thanks

Just checking this board and agree with the others... Tuffy has done an excellent job at positioning their boats on their trailers. I suspect if you purchased a new jack/dolly it will solve your problems.

FYI... The factory one on my Ranger was acting the same way, I went to Farm Fleet and bought the heaviest one they had with the largest wheel and I can push mine around with minimal effort and the whole package weighs in around 2,800+.
