Is it the action? the colour? the quality? or something else? |

| HR 6"and 8" Shakers.Certain ones have a looooong glide, belly roll(flash)and juuuust about suspend. Don't buy that they all work the same. I've had almost 50 at one time and there was lots of variation from bait to bait. They all worked, but differently. Can be worked fast or slow as conditions dictate. Is it spring yet? Steve |

| Gotta echo the 6" and 8" Shakers. Easy to use. Great movement and roll and they "hang" in place after each movement for as long as you can stand it.
8" Hugheys are also great. They really have a long glide to them and they also have the "hang".
My favorites, hands down.

Oh well... I would have to say the the ReefHawg is my favorite Glide Bait, the 8 inch holoform in Black, I really like the action and are pretty simple to use. Oh yeah and it catches fish... Esox23 |

I just got 4 phantoms 2 small and 2 large and will be trying them out this spring. I havent made a glide yet but will eventully get around to making a good one. For now we stand on the Little claw jerkincrank.

Location: mount prospect illinois | My favorite so far is the Jerko. So far it seems to be the bait that catches fish for me. Much of it is confidence so of course i am throwing it during those good times but it has also done the job during "slow" periods when nothing else was working. I just got some drop bellies so we will see, but the walleye pattern Jerko will always be my sweetheart. |

Hr's, punishers, nitros, x-glide, wyde glyde, dead head, cobbs, musky treats, 6" phantoms, slammer drop belly, musky dart, undertaker, joker these are just a few off the top of my head that are good. |

Location: Apollo, PA | Hughes Rivers, hughies, shakers, 6,8,10 - very pricey but the best around, especially in cold fronts or cold water. I also really like a bait called the smuttley dog. It is also a West Virginia drop belly bait, made by Mark Smith. It is more reasonably priced with great quality and glide.

Location: Hazard KY | The West Virgina guys make some of the best I like Widow makers dead head for a slow wide glide and widow makers sidewinder for faster work also I use Dancin shads and Grey Ghost gliders.
For winter fishin its hard to beat a 10" dead head for just side to side glide you got to lower your rod to the bait because it will glide as far as the slack line will reach.
Good Luck all glide baits are fun and you will get hooked on them.

| I have to say that my favorite is Hype's Studfinder and Hustler. They are made in small numbers and hard to find right now,but they work great and the finishes are up there with HR(if not better). They are also made of Maple not Cedar like HR'S , so the chance of pulling out a screw eye is less(I worry too much about that kind of stuff though). They have a LOOONG Glide and belly flash and are neutrally bouyant. I also like HR's Shakers and 8" Hugheys. |

| I am with ToddM, too many to say one is the best. However my confidence baits are slammer drop bellies, undertakers, large phantoms in fall, my wabull has some sweet moves to it, cobbs, divani glider, and thanks to shep my suicks now slightly glide.

Next to these handmade lures I like the Jerkos, they all seem to run well.
Got a 30 incher on the first cast I ever made with a Magic Maker, gotta love that!!!

| I'm with Duck. That bait is gonna hammer fish this year. Fish haven't seen anything like it. It's got the shihizzle and the fahizzle.I threw one on a 20 degree December day for an hour and kinda got aquainted with how it works and what I can make it do. Of all the baits I've picked up this winter and there's been a few, this one really gets me going. When I want Gliiide, I'll go with the HR, but for a slow, tantalizing SPAZ,it's the Wabull. Steve |

Sounds like the WV boys have things down pretty good. I'd heard of all those baits before, but didn't realize most came from WV.
Many thanks for all of the responses. One last quick question, I remember reading lots of posts in the past about problems getting HR baits. Has that been pretty much resolved now? |

I only threw mine for a total of about 3 hours and got a 38" a 40" and then had a mid 40 overshoot the bait and cut my line. Bye, Bye Wabull, ( I don't have one anymore, that's how I could forget) this is one glider that will be in my boat from now on. Great finish and great action etc. very easy to run as well. |

| Just a correction, HR's are not made of "Select Cedar," but Lynnwood. Only found in West Virginia. Same with Amma Bammas and quite a few other WV baits. Could that be why we have so many great baits coming from WV?
Anyways, my favorite gliders as of now are HR Hugheys (thanks Beav!), Waterwolf's Chubby's, and x-glides. I got a Wabull at the MN Xtreme Show that looks awesome. E's new glider looks fantastic. I've seen Divani's XL Divani run and that has a very unique action (I will have one before spring). So many baits, and so little time...

Location: Apollo, PA | When I spoke to Jim Wilson years ago, he told me the baits were made of Cedar? Also, I heard Mr. Looney say at the Pittsburgh Muskie Show that his baits were made of seasoned (in his barn) basswood. Never heard of Lynwood?
I'm not a maker, and have never torn one apart. Mr Wilson stated that cedar (red) would not rot and was the better cedar. Just a thought.
PS
HR's packaging also says cedar I beleive |

Location: Chagrin Falls, Ohio | 6" Reef Hawg. It's just the most versatile. You can work it as a search bait, or work it slow and short, keeping it in the strike zone forever during a tough bite. The only problem is they aren't consistent from bait to bait like a Manta. But overall, when you have a good one, they move way more fish then a Manta. But the Manta would be my second choice, and are way easier to work. I am tired of winter... Tyler |

Location: NeverNever Lake | Being from WV I can say there are many fine baitmakers here. As far as quality, action, and his true to life artwork, hard to beat a Hughes River. I walked in to Reeses Country Store and about lost it. There were a few hundred Hr's hangin there and I had to pick just 3.
Another personal favorite of mine is the Dead Head. This bait floats at rest and is very close to neutrally buoyant. It has alot of belly roll and flash. I know of a 45# fish that was caught on one. Price is very reasonable.
Undertakers, get one and learn it....Fish will go out of their way to eat these at times. A good way to make your boat partner look like a rookie.
I don't really have a favorite, they all seem to work at different times. Since all gliders get their action from the operator, spending lots of time with one particular bait is most important
I like this pattern too

Location: charleston wv | In regards to the Lynwood: it is the same thing as basswood. It is just another name for it. Hughes River baits are made from cedar. For sure, no doubt. So are Cobbs and Genes Wyde glyde. I live in W.V. so I am positive about this. My baits(Smuttly Dog) are also made of cedar. Jack Cobb and I usually go to the mill for cedar. My favorite bait would be my own or a Cobbs. |

| uptown and raze, those are some of the finest looking finishes on baits I've seen. I hope I'm never those things with 2 slices of bread around. Guys I've met that make lures usually can't catch fish with them, they have to give 'em away to prove that somebody can. I hope that's not the case with you two fellas. Keep up the good work. |

I believe that they will be out this year late summer. They want to make sure all of the bugs are worked out before selling them. Here are some pics of the others that I got to test.
