Diawa or Cortland rod?

Subject: Diawa or Cortland rod?

I was shopping for a new 7' musky rod from Rollie and Helen's. Since I was keeping the cost down, my choices were either a Diawa Heartland or the Cortland CTR. I chose the Diawa, and am happy with it, but my curiosity has never let me let go of the Cortland. Who knows these two names or even the rods I'm refering to and did I make a good choice?

I was messing around with the Diawa, pretty nice stick for the money. I didn't see the Cortland, but will look for it next time I am there.

My father has the cortland 7' rod. I think it is an awesome rod and underpriced for only 80 dollars. I like it much better than one of my Gloomis rods if that says anything. It also comes with an unconditional lifetime warranty, but I don't know how the customer service is since there has not been a need to get it fixed. If you had them side by side and liked the feel of the daiwa better then you probably made the right choice! I wouldn't second guess yourself unless you can exchange it. I have also never felt a daiwa to compare the two.
enjoy your new rod either way,
Kly

I have two Cortlands and love them both. Many hours on both, not a single problem. Never tried the Diawa, but South Bend Rizzo rods are cane poles in comparison to the Cortland. Way underpriced for the quality.

I have one of the Cortland...great rod for the price. Only thing with the 6.6 or 7 in this series is that they seem to be better suited for lighter weight baits, topwater, bucktails, twitch, etc. If they made one a little heavier that could handle some of the heavier cranks/gliders I would probably have to give it a try.

Thanks, Gents. The funny thing about Mark H's reply is that I was after a lighter rod for tossing bucktails and the Diawa is really just a 7' stick instead of the 6' Diawa that I already own. It seems the universe is telling me that I now have to buy the Cortland as well. Bummer...
