| As I sit here in my home office, the window overlooks the side of the yard where my boat sits. Covered in snow, windchills in negative numbers, but my mind is already on the water! I cant wait to throw some of the new baits/colors/patterns....etc. that I have worked on during the winter and those that I have bought.
I was just thinking about a previous post that mentioned all the things us musky nuts do over the winter to pass the time. I think its time to start making some reservations at the lodges I plan on staying at! Ok, now I feel better! COME ON SPRING TIME!!!!!!!

Here is what you need to do. Grab your favorite rod, throw on a top water, uncover the boat and practice casting out into the snow. You will enjoy it and solidify to your neighbors that you are a head case.

Location: Athens, Ohio | Yup, those Topraiders make cool patterns in the snow. er, ah, well, from what I hear, that is. m
ps ( a few wraps of duck tape around the hooks helps with the retrieve, specially if you have outdoor pets). so I'm told. m |

| Out my window right now in Central Wisconsin its a balamy -11 without the windchill! There are places on the river this winter that I have never seen frozen, ever! Normally we start openwater walleye fishing in mid-feburary, doubtful this season!

Location: Madison, WI | It sounds like Jim K's squirrel-cicle would make a great topwater bait. A few hooks and a leader and you'd be in business. I'd hate to be around in July when he thaws out though.
WINTER SUCKS!!!!!

I can barely see the lake because of the snow piles, from plowing my driveway.
Spring seems a lifetime away as I
stare out at the frozen air in the
-30 degree range. Just think, only
4 months and 7 days until the MN muskie opener....MY GOD!!!!! |

Location: Brainerd Area | DAY DREAMING
I sit here and dream of the day I am able to start casting for the fish I long to catch. I dream of picking out the right bait for that condition, placing the bait in the attack zone and anticipating how big the fish will be. I dream, every fish being 50 plus inches. I dream of the explosion the musky will make when it attacks my bait. I dream of the tail walks, the jumping, the drag screaming and the line peeling off my reel. I dream, the boats around me staring in ah as I hold up my fish, another, 50 incher. As I release her to the waters she came from, I see hundreds of musky under my boat just swimming around. Every cast bringing me another monster.
Then I wake up to reality and my dream is over. Its mid February, 10 degree's, lakes are frozen and all my fishing gear is in storage. I close my eyes and try to go back to where I was, but it dose not work, its still winter. Then a new dream starts. The dream of going to a place, where I can live my dream sooner then I can here in Minnesota. Lets see, how about Illinois, Kentucky, Iowa? So many places to choose from. One of them has to have an open musky season. Then I start thinking, how long can I stay and how much will it cost?
Once again my dream is over. I must wait till June just like everyone else. My fishing gear is now out of storage and will be for the rest of the winter. My gear will stay in the den to remind me of what's to come this summer. I will sharpen every hook till they are razor sharp. I will paint my lures to make them look like new again and position them back in the box for easy finding.
These drams may be over, but I know that there will be many more to come. Dreams to me are sort of like a musky. You always hope for the one you will never forget and will always see when you close our eyes.
