| Love fishing Canada but have no problem staying home. I have a 99.1% chance of surviving Covid. Shot is just that a shot. Doesn't even guarantee prevention and nobody knows what the long term effects are. We can however see what the short term effects are and they are many. My wife with an auto-immune disease cannot not risk getting the shot which means she cannot go and I won't go without her. |

They are the ones keeping this thing dragging on and creating worse variants. That is not the case in states like Arkansas and Utah, where the Republican governors are pleading with their citizens to get vaccinated. The reason is simple, their hospitals are filling with the unvaccinated. |

??? Not sure at all, what you mean by this. The "liberal" 7 county metro area has a vaccination rate in the mid 70%s, of those 16 and older, and things have been pretty much back to normal for about a month and a half now, and infection rates are at the lowest they have been since the start of the pandemic, and holding flat. |

There is a lot of media that would never report this. I blame the continued closed border on conspiracy media where it squarely belongs. |

I'm still of the opinion that all governments should do what they believe is for the over-all good of their country. I'm not qualified to make that judgement so I'll go along with the elected officials. |

| I vaguely remember when this all started that the elected officials said the lockdowns were only supposed to be 2 weeks? I also see that some of the officials are offering beer and lottery tickets for people to get the shot? Why can't folks just mind their own business. If you feel safe with the shot, fine. If others don't want it, that's fine to. It's there business. As far as Canada goes, I hope they do open because there are families up there that rely on the tourists to make a living. And what ever side you are on with this issue, I think we all agree that this has gone on for far to long. Kdawg |

That is what Carnival lines thought about cruise passengers and now they are in a legal battle with Florida, which forbids business from asking for proof of vaccination. A sovereign nation doesn't have to deal with that kind of thing |

I made my choice and did so without a lick of concern about what others think about it. That's freedom. Freedom also allows me to totally ignore those who disagree with me, or argue. In this case, my freedom-based choice is the former.
The border will open when the climate up there dictates it should. US folks down here have no say in that. Our combined actions, however, speak volumes. |

It would be a federal-level decision which would apply to all provinces and territories, but it would not override provincial/territorial health rules. (in Canada health care is managed by the provinces/territories, individually, not the feds) so you should look into NWT specifics: https://www.gov.nt.ca/covid-19/en/self-isolation-requirements-0 |

| i have traveled all over the world and pumped myself full of crap, in most all of those cases it was to protect myself.
it still amazes me that people are willing to take a vaccine to get access to something, and it not being about protecting themselves. that changed in one year, that is amazing to me. here is your fishing vaccine?
I am a Covid 19 survivor. And still have antibodies and not planning on getting vaccine anytime soon. when the time comes i will re access if i think there is a need or not for personal safety. My spot in the CDC data is very low risk.
Canada does not have the Healthcare infrastructure to handle a big outbreak, they hit capacity at very low numbers. It makes sense for them to be very cautious. But as much as the vaccine will help alleviate risk for some the overall treatments that have been developed are continuing to improve so hopefully this helps keep more people safe.
I hope for my Canadian friends that they can get back to business soon. For some its been very difficult. |

But if it remains closed for whatever reason, I'm closing on a cabin on Vermilion in August as well so I've got a long term backup. Hope to be back on LOTW, but I'll deal with whatever happens. Not worth getting worked up over something I have no control over. |

Yep, one of my earliest memories was of my mother holding my hand as we walked in line in a high school gym to get our sugar cube with the vaccine on it. I saw my mom cry twice. When her mother died and when we got the vaccine. Had friends my age later in life who had disabilities because of polio pre-vaccine. I don't think many under 70 know how horrible that was for kids. |

| Lets see in the last 2 weeks we have 5 Yankee baseball players with Covid whom were "vaccinated" 5 more from the Dem defectors in Texas and more than 100 in the New England area. Not against a vaccine at all just not this one with so many issues and questions about them. Also a vaccine is a variant of the virus that it is meant to fight against. These "vaccines" are synthetic. They were never tested on anyone under the age of 21 or over the age of 55. Not tested on anyone with any type of medical condition what so ever. I will take the 99.8% chance that I can beat it rather than take a % I have zero idea what the short or long term effects will be. Not even 6 months into it we are already seeing many, many issues. |

One of my profs was a bit too late for polio vaccine, so yes, remember it after I asked him what he got his limp from.
You guys should be celebrating, as it will be open soon for sure. Yes, the unvacc'd won't be coming, so more room for the rest. There are more fisher-folks (and muskie fishers) on both sides of the border than before this happened. Make sure to check the Canadian gov't sites for the requirements which will likely be the same as they are now (but no tourists now of course).
Hopefully I can get out for a few day trip before you guys start coming across....

Need to look at data again, vaccines were indeed tested on folks under 21 and over 55. And from the beginning it was stated that the vaccines were 93 to 95% effective, not 100%. Also those who still get infected after vaccination are not getting nearly as sick. Virtually 100% of hospitalizations, which are rising are of the unvaccinated. |

| Do you know math and percentages? 90% effective means 10% are still going to get it and most likely be symptomatic.
"Beating it" while being symptomatic is what allows the virus to mutate. We, as in humanity, will never beat this virus. Coronaviruses are a robust virus that are widespread and mutate with ease. Which is why Wuhan was studying them, with US and WHO backing at times, most recently with the backing of 45, aka Trump. Freedom as we thought we had will have a toll I fear. You trust science to make your reels, no stretch line, a boat, all your medicines... Give those up too if you don't trust science. |

I too was somewhat concerned about the RNA process, but heard an extended interview with one of the scientists from Baylor where a lot of the development took place. They have been working on the process for years, starting with a way to combat ebola virus. Really a remarkable achievement, allowing for much quicker and safer response than old method of trial and error with live virus. One of those things that would be next to impossible without modern technology. |

Fully aware there 8. As I have consulted with my physician instead of just running like a lemming. My wife who has an auto-immune disease will not get the shot as her neurologist after much research and study has determined that risk is not worth the reward. Her research clearly shows whom was tested and what age and demographics there were in the testing prior to rolling out the "Vaccine".
Now she did not and nor I am saying that it isn't safe or reliable but the testing was so limited and so short (3 months ) that nobody knows what the long term affects may or may not be. Case in point enlarged hearts in males 30 and younger. All information that the Israel and Germany had of these affects for months prior to the US saying it was ok for this age group to get vaccinated. Follow the science right???

Surprising U.S. has not reciprocated yet. Canada is well ahead of U.S.A. in vaccination rates.

Canada is well ahead of U.S.A. in vaccination rates.
I didn't realize that. They must have solved their supply issues. I know early on, they were clamoring to acquire vaccines.
It surprised me too but Wall Street Journal said at least 70% of adult Canadians have had at least one shot, which the WSJ described as one of the highest rates in the world.
The USA has not had a supply problem for a couple months, rather people are just choosing not to get vaccinated. Maybe we shipped our surplus north? Hope everything gets better and all the folks that want to fish Canada get the chance. Wonder how many of the lodges made it? |

Location: Canada | Summary from the Toronto Star:
"No partially vaccinated people without quarantine. Everyone will still have to have a negative COVID-19 test before arrival. Proof of vaccination will have to be uploaded to the ArriveCAN app or website. Only vaccinations approved by Canada will be acceptable. Some travellers will still face random testing upon arrival so public health officials can track variants of concern. And just in case, you’d better have a full-fledged quarantine plan in hand if the border guards ask for it." |

Location: Honor, MI | Info I saw on ArriveCan is dated July 5th, much of which no longer applies. Aside from proof of vaccination what else is required? Unless this app is updated to reflect the August 9th re-opening I have no clue. Do we show our proof (shot card) to a customs agent at the border along with our passport or what? |

| Want to cross the border now? Apparently you can get a Canadian girlfriend who has a lodge in the family and head right over. Give me a break. Not a good look. Lots of heads turning on that one. |

That's what it looks like. Flying you have some other options (3 day rapid test before going back). Winnipeg is now an entry point, so one option.
Hopefully we get some more rain up here (had a tiny bit recently), as it is a smoky forest fire and severe fire danger mess in Eastern Manitoba into NW Ont /LOTW region right now. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | heard on radio this morning that the requirement for a 15 day stay as yet hasn't changed. This was initially because of the 14 day quarantine but would still require change.
also heard that the border guards 3 years without a contract are taking a strike vote and while some will be deemed essential it will make for huge backups ( the ones working likely in bad mood)

Well, every year there are thousands of temp visas granted for agricultural workers. We wouldn't have any produce in our grocery stores without them. Me, I like to eat.
Noah's Ark, the largest water park in the world in Wis. Dells had trouble getting enough foreign workers this year so they close every Wednesday. |

Location: Roseau | I am lucky to be able to cross back and forth and they way things have been going since March will be interesting, every time a change happens not all things are considered or operate very smooth. Will be interesting to see what comes of all this Aug. 9th. One would think that as much time as both countries have been closed to each other they would have a plan in place to make things easy. |

Requirements for entering Canada by private boat
You currently cannot enter Canadian waters for optional reasons, such as:
touring
sightseeing
pleasure fishing
visits to cottages/vacation homes across the border
You must report to the Canada Border Services Agency if:
your vessel lands on Canadian soil at any point
your vessel anchors, moors or comes alongside another vessel in Canadian waters
anyone onboard disembarks in Canada
For more information on reporting and border clearance, consult:
Reporting requirements for private boaters |

| ABU7000 and I both live at the Angle. I have been told by several of the resort owners no we will not be able to fish Canadian Waters after 8/9. They have been in discussions with CBSA. There is a very hefty fine they can levy if you are caught. But agree with all its BS |

Location: Selkirk, Manitoba | Considering that it is not reciprocal, I don't see what benefit Canada gets by allowing US citizens staying at US resorts to come across and fish in Canada, spend nothing, and then go back. Actually it is only a net costs in increased border activity and paperwork that could be better utilized on paying tourists. Very simple math on that one.
The traffic in the well know current spots is going to be ugly enough as it is...

well thats interesting.. so if you cross the border and go up and stay in canada, you can fish their waters, but you cant stay at a US resort and fish in canadian waters.. huh... that is lame.. |

Hard to guess what will happen but the New York Times story I read last week indicated Canada's focus was on their high rate of vaccination as opposed to the level of vaccination in the states. And they are requiring proof of vaccination for anyone entering. |

i dont think it will change because one, you have to be vaccinated to cross, and two, you have to have a negative test also to cross..
so technically you should be safe if you meet those 2 requirements..
but ya never know, especially with the low vaccination rates down here.. which i still dont understand myself... |

| Proof of vacancies within 14 days, 72 hour negative test results, quarantine plan if you show symptoms while in Canada. I’m guessing that shrinks the amount of people that will “flood “ into Canada. |

Yes. If that's the case hopefully we can get our deposit back and just fish up in the Cass Lake area... |

Let's not confuse the temp workers with the influx of thousands coming across daily. Many who have COVID. Just makes no sense to shutdown 1 border and let another one go like the turnstyles at Disney World. |

The thousands coming across the southern border are not entering legally. They cross rivers, deserts and even mountains to get in. If we really wanted to stop them, we would require all employers to use the E-Verify system. But, since big dairy farms, meat processors, etc. want plenty of cheap labor, that is not done.
If my family was starving, I would try and find a better life, even if it meant crossing a border illegally. We should throw the folks that hire illegals in jail, that would take care of the issue. Before I retired, I worked for a federally chartered bank. To set up a checking account we had to verify the SS# with the feds, similar to the E-Verify pre-employment check. On just about a weekly basis we denied checking accounts for folks who brought in pay checks from farms. The SS# was bogus, or belonged to someone with a different name, age, gender, etc.. |
