I'm going to keep it a secret and take my Suick's and Hosebaits with me to the crematorium .Anyone wants to see me they better do it while I'm upright, not going to give my enemies the satisfaction of seeing me in a box.
Ever go to the funeral home and some idiot says doesn't he look good. I want to scream no he looks F***en dead.

Your plan is the same as mine. One of my projects in the wood shop this year is a nice box for my ashes. Harwood dealer in Wausau where I have purchased maple and oak always has some exotic hardwood in stock. Way too expensive to make furniture with but I can buy enough for that. And instead of somebody saying he looks ok in that casket, they can wonder where I got the crazy looking wood.

Some will say good things and a few won't. I don't plan on telling anyone I am dead though.:-)

My children, (7) have directions to spread my ashes around Stovetop Reef on Lake Vermilion where 8 years ago I lost what I thought was a 58+ fish.... plus it's a beautiful area.... Then a big "Leaving this World" party.
Everyone is invited... I'll let you all know !

I'm with Horsehunter and NO8. No sense in making anyone who cares enough to show up have to stand there and pretend I look good dead in a box. B.S. - I don't look that good alive and breathing!

My wife has instructions to spread my ashes on some of my favorite spots on Eagle lake, and rest around Presque Isle. She'll never remember where any of the spots are on Eagle, and I doubt she'll want to make the 7 hour drive to P.I. My guess is I'll wind up in a dumpster or on the side of the road. She can take the money she would have spent on the funeral and have a party.

As for the guys here, well... You guys are welcome to come. There will be free beer and good food - probably the things that will do me in anyway.

I always told my daughter she could keep my ashes in the trunk of her car and if she ever gets stuck in the snow maybe I could help her one last time.

Lost a really good friend from work a handful of years back. This might be related....

One of the best/most meaningful things he ever said to me was" Life's not really that hard, it's nothing more than a bunch'a choices!"

Why waste such a big resource of beautiful minds. I bet there are plenty of healthcare facilities that could use help. And yeah, I agree with choice of cremation. At least you won't be endangering others, the temperature will take care of it. I don't know, never was a big fan of mixing stuff with pure flower, tobacco for example. Although hooking up a flame source to the respirator wouldn't be a bad idea. Directly to the source without that harsh feeling on your throat. Man, seriously, cheer up. Get some booze and some flower and enjoy a moment cuz some of the posts seemed depressing, almost like a threat. But then again, if you get depressed cuz someone stole your magnet, I would recommend getting some help. There are people that can help.

is it sad that i think a lot about how my wife and family will make the most of my good fish pics at a service? I'm not in a lot of photos, but i treasure my fish pictures. I sure hope there is a huge screen they can put a presentation together, or blow them all up to at least 8x12. I do love my wife and kids too.
NO8 has a nice idea. Don't think i'll be missed. I'm just some guy, that fishes sometimes, and sometimes catches one.

Idk about me, but my old man always said something about a viking funeral on Two Sisters. I think that means I need to brush up on my archery skills. If he floats out too far I'll have to tie on a jackpot and bomb one to drag him back a little closer

While we're on the subject...In memory of a fishing friend:
(previous post by Michael Lucado )
One final note, I came across a poem Kyle wrote in 8th grade which I would be honored to share with all of you.

TIME TO GO AND GROW
The day has come,
It’s time to grow,
We’ve been together eight years or so,
And now it’s time to go.

We’ve been there for each other
through thick and thin,
Growing strong with each other,
Caring for one another,
But now it’s time to go.

Being clowns and getting into trouble
And making frowns, laughing together,
Crying together, being there for each other.
Now it’s time to part,
Letting go of each other to grow,
And now it’s time to go.

I still have a bucktail Kyle made me hanging on the wall for mojo. I still have a couple messages from him I left in my message box. He would have been around 40 now probably.getting excited about taking his children musky fishing this season with the same high enthusiasm he always had back then.

I had a teammate that liked hunting ducks. His neighbor across the marsh was not so well liked. My buddy passed away of a heart attack on the pitch. He was cremated and we loaded some of the ashes in shotgun shells. We had a big send off one Saturday. Shot the ashes over the neighbors property so he's be trespassing forever.

I should have added to my original post that while I will be cremated, I have had a written directive for 40 years that any organs that are usable should be donated. And remember, just because you are older, doesn't mean your organs can't be used. My wife's aunt had a brain aneurysm at age 70, while subbing at the school where she had taught (not in classroom). It was very sudden but her family took solace in that 7 different patients were helped with organ/tissue donations.

My brother in-law suffers from a rare genetic disorder and is alive because he received a heart/liver transplant. And even though his liver was the source of the rogue protein that damaged his heart, it could be and was used by a person over the age of 50 since it takes decades for it to cause harm. As the saying goes," don't take your organs to heaven, heaven knows we need them here."

When any of us die here will we be mentioned in the obits in the basement? Ever wonder what the internet guru's will say about you? Maybe a better question....will we even be missed?

I actually think this is an interesting question considering a somewhat recent experience I had...

Some years back, I was talkin' with a guy that I met on here about buying some baits. He had emailed me some pics. Then he kinda went silent. I redirected on here, and for a couple of years, he talked about some health problems. It didn't sound good.

Then, I didn't get any response on here, either.

Eventually, I did an internet search and, sure enough, I found his obit. I removed the messages from my Outbox.

So, Brian, yeah, I miss some the guys that aren't around but, I also agree with what some of the others are saying: nobody gets out alive.

When I really got into musky fishing in earnest, Esox Angler had just started up, Pastikas was still around and had just received new ownership, Rollie & Helen were still both around, Jack Burns, Tony Rizzo, Jack Cobb, Jack Penny... and with the latter three, I had personal interactions & own some of their baits.

Missed, for sure, but also glad for what they brought to the sport.

From John Prine, "Please Don't Bury Me"

Please don't bury me
Down in the cold cold ground
No, I'd druther have 'em cut me up
And pass me all around
Throw my brain in a hurricane
And the blind can have my eyes
And the deaf can take both of my ears
If they don't mind the size
Give my stomach to Milwaukee
If they run out of beer
Put my socks in a cedar box
Just get 'em out of here
Venus de Milo can have my arms
Look out! I've got your nose
Sell my heart to the Junkman
And give my love to Rose

He did live long enough to see a whole new generation of artists learn to appreciate his music and record covers. In particular younger female artists, but also guys like Jason Isbell. Angel from Montgomery is going to keep being recorded for decades.
