I am considering an Assault Stick 20/20. They categorize their rods only by lure weight. Am I making the right comparison?
SWAT lure rating 3-10 oz = industry standard of a "HEAVY"
Shock & Awe lure rating of 4 - 24 oz = industry standard of "EXTRA HEAVY"

Also, I primarily use St Croix Legend Tournament. I have several 9 ft but considering a 10 ft. But storage in the Ranger and transport is a challenge. I already modified the rod holder to hold 9 ft rods, so the 9 ft is a great fit for me, but I do want option for longer rods. Great to have a longer rod and still be able to store it in the Ranger rod compartment. Anyone have any input or concern with the telescopic function of the Assault Stick 20/20 9'6"??

Thanks!

The original Assault Stick Ratings correspond as follows:
SWAT: Extra Heavy
Shock & Awe: Extra, Extra Heavy
I haven't used the 20/20s yet to compare.

All my Swats and Shock & Awe Original Assault Sticks are 9'6" Telescopic and I love them! Fit nicely in my Triton 206 storage. I use rod socks and take my time sliding them in an out. The rod socks are nice for transporting into buddies' rigs. I use 2 small bungee cords around the handful I take with to keep rods shifting and reels clanging off each other when grabbing them all at once. I also use Jig Rippers on the rods. Have cork and plastic handles on these. In my boat I use the cork. Simply unscrew when storing. When transporting to others' boats, I use the plastic ones as the open end of the jig ripper handles can be snugged on the butt of the rods. Recommend using wraps on the plastic gripper handles as sweat or rainy damp conditions makes them feel a little slippery for my liking. I use my kids' hockey tape and the extra cushion and tackiness is pretty nice!

Long winded, but confidently pull the trigger on those Assault Sticks!

I can't speak for the 96, but the 9' shock n awe is very close to a big nasty. It was not as stiff as my 9'8" xh predator. I feel like the older rods are stiffer than the 2020's.

Makes sense RyanJoz. I think newer technology allows the rod to be less stiff. Thanks!

They are very light, sensitive rods, I would just buy one heavier than the rating suggests if you’re accustomed to St. Croix ratings.

I have a 9 foot 6 shock n awe 2020.

The rating is optimistic, it foes not have enought power for 24 oz lures.

But it does cast 10 to 18 oz lures very nicely.

So tough question for anyone...

10' St Croix Legend Tournament or 9'6" Assault Stick 20/20?

My confidence is in the Legend Tournament, but the collapisble Assault Stick is very tempting for many reasons.
