Got to thinking about trolling and casting success. Was just curious what you think the percentages are of 50 inch fish caught by,casting or troling. When I see some of the numbers posted of 50 inch plus caught trolling I have to think a high pertcentage come that way.

Every one of the 50's in my boat have been caught casting. I don't troll enough because it is not legal here at home.

Hey Don we boat just about half of our 50 + inchers casting. That's because I cast 75% of the time from opener to September and troll 90% of the time in October and November. So naturaly most of the fattys are caught trolling because it is more effective during the cold water season of the fall but we get a bunch casting every year including a 54 x 24 inch pig last August. If one just wants to catch muskies I would suggest to troll as they can be had all year long and it is an easyer way to catch both numbers and trophys. (but casting is so much more fun

Don, more people cast for musky so there will always be more 50" fish caught that way. I think trolling will get you in conact with more of them just because your covering more water, so percentage wise, i would have to say trolling would be more productive.

Over the past two years, I have petted (7) 50's. 6 of these beasts have came trolling, 1 came casting. However the heaviest two fish the past 2 years were a 50 x 28 and a 49 X 26 came casting. I think it depends on the lake and the patterns you like to fish. Big fish will eventually show up.

The point I was with hopes of making is this. If trolling were legal in wisconsin would we see more 50's caught? When guys compare us to canada, ill. and minnesota I think its unfair as we don't have many trolling waters. I'm sure if were legal we would have more caught. Now we will and can troll Big Green and the winnebago chain but they are newbies. Will be interesting by the time I'm too old to fish.
