We did this a few months ago, and thought as winter is settling down upon us, might be a good time to start this again.
Check the lake map, if you can figure out what lake it is, please dont say anything, but use this below info coupled with the map to give your inights as to how you would fish it!

*VERY Good Visibility, down to 17+ft on a sunny day.
*Forage of suckers, perch and cisco (small population)
*Low amounts of weed cover.
*Season opens May 1st.
*Low population of fish, but very large fish do exist.
*Low fishing and boating pressure.

Break it down, tell us how YOU would approach this body of water!

The two main areas I'd fish would be(if north is the top of the map) the north-east corner of the lake 10' and shallower and the southeast corner(based on what is shown on the map). A third possible spot would be the northwest corner if that is where the dam exits the lake. Baits I would use would be smaller cranks(6"Gramma/jakes, cranes, various shallow shad type baits) and bucktails/spinnerbaits. Since it is spring there is a good possibility for run off making making the lake cloudy or murky, if that is the case I may use some brighter colored lures, otherwise I would stick close to natural type colors, but not exact natural colors, i.e. some colors that are natural shades but maybe not natural to the lake.

I wouldn't even touch this lake until fall or maybe fish for spawners in the spring on that north east side. Maybe at night in the summer or if a nice front was going through hit the exposed side. Fish it shallow in the spring and fall. Lots of topwater, jackpots especially.

Clearwater not many weeds, I would get right on that 20` break line and deep crank all the way around. No matter what time of year it was, that is what I would consider the main break at 17` visability! depthraiders or DDD would be my goto baits!

With a 17' secci.... unless you have some serious cover those shallow water fish (less than 10 feet) will be tough or non-existent. Thus, I'd start with Handyman's strategy if any sort of "weather" was happening. If it was a calm, sunny day I'd be looking for a good SUSPENDED pattern over the 25-40 foot flats.... primarily in the narrows, NE corner, and NW corners.

Here is how I would approach this lake....and its seasonal!

For the most part this photo only shows one part of this lake...since it took me about 2 seconds to figure out what lake it was. There is some better stucture in the other basin.

This lake actually has a hot topwater bite believe it or not and it does not have to be early in the morning if you got choppy water, but early like 4am is best. When water temps are between 55 and 62 degrees put the boat in 30ft of water and pitch topwaters onto the shallow sand flat and pull them off the break. The fish hold tight to the break and will come up and pop topwaters...trust me!

Trolling is best for suspended fish in August..large minnow baits style lures are best, like Slammers, Jakes and Grandmas for some reason. Troll 12 to 15ft down over 40 to 50 of water. The lake has alot of white bass in it, so maybe that is why larger minnow style cranks work best.

Put the boat in 30ft of water and drag suckers around the points in Oct and Nov. Casting while draging is a must. There is some jigging fish to be had also at this time. Dont forget to pitch hair...I have seen hot fish on big hair in 39 degree water temps on this pond.

Here is some examples of how and when I would approach this lake...I am not an expert on it, but I did put 20 days a year on this water.

I would start trolling along the breaklines with a believer on the shallow setting. I would also try anchoring over the deeper water in the south east and southwest corners, and casting a deep diver down the steeper drop offs. If the conditions were high skies and sunny, I would drag a jig and reaper over these same areas.

Since I am still new at this game of muskie, please correct me if I am way off base!
