Location: Central Pennsylvania | I fish the river almost exclusively, I would probably die if I attempted to go out on local lake using either canoe or kayak. My local river is somewhat shallow (usually around 3 feet but it is deep as 10+ feet in some places.). The biggest craft I can easily transport would be 12 feet. Tell me what you think and give me recommendations for whichever one you think is best for me! |

Location: Walker, MN | I've always preferred a canoe. I see the trend in kayaks is toward wide-open design, more like a hybrid between the two, which I think is better for fishing. I really like a square stern canoe with a trolling motor lol. I like paddling, just not necessarily when I'm trying to catch a fish. |

| I have a 10' fishing kayak, has rod holders, large storage area and is quite comfortable. Mine is a sit in style which is dryer and warmer than the sit on style which are wide open and seem to be favored by the hard core kayak fishermen. You can get accessories to fit the sit on kayaks to handle everything from nets, to graphs to trolling motor. Some have a peddle system that allows you to move while casting. Friend of mine has the peddle type and it is a great hull to fish out of. Between peddling for propulsion and a rudder for steering, you have both hands free to fish, land fish, etc. If I was spending a lot of time fishing from a kayak, that is the style I would buy and equip. Have seen video of guys everything from red fish to sharks from that style of kayak. One showed a guy battling a 100 lb tarpon from a kayak. There are even fishing contests where everyone fishes from a kayak.
Take a look at the Old Town 12' PDL 120, it has a ton of room, light weight for its size and they claim you can fish standing up in it. If I wasn't so darn old, I would seriously consider doing a lot of my fishing from one of these. |

Does the inability to stand constantly bother you? I figure a canoe will be better cause who knows maybe ill have a buddy go with me sometime. I've seen canoe stabilizers around and they look to be a cure for instability. By the way, which make and model canoe do you use? |

| I have a 12' jackson kayak that is a sit on top river model. It is wide enough and sturdy enough that I can stand and cast. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | In rocky West Virginia rivers, the craft of choice is a 12 ft jon boat with a rudder in the rear for stability and an electric motor mounted up front on one side. Gets thru skinny waters just fine, and you can install seats and even stand up and cast. m |

I for sure would be getting hold of one of those if they were cheaper than 1,000 (I'm on a budget) and not peddle drive. My river has occasional spots of less than 1 foot, so I'd probably be saying good bye to the peddle drive on a kayak. I set my mind on an old town saranac 14'6 canoe, however, next year i will very likely get a old town discovery solo. Thanks for the great offer, Brother! |

My son uses a kayak to go places, but then gets out to cast. Can't see follows plus the fight is too long in a yak. I feel you stress the fish way to much in the summer. |

Location: Central Pennsylvania | Well, Ive decided on a 14'6 canoe with a width of 38" (Its either 36 or 38) but anyway, I will be anchored when im casting cause i have no interest in being pulled by my lures LOL. In any case i have the xxl drifter tackle musky net and am getting ahold of knipex soon. |
