| The lake I live on in Oneida County is completely iced over this morning, with the exception of the channel across the lake. The channel remains open, at least in part, most of the winter. The lake is small, part of a five lake chain. Last time I was out fishing, Saturday, water was 37 so not real surprised, but still seems a little early. Warmer temps are coming and it shouldn't last (I hope!).
This fall I think I saw the least fishermen in October in the 17 years we have had property here. Little surprising in that for much of the year, more fishermen than other years. Don't know, maybe cooler than normal temps? |

Last Friday I had 45 degree water but it’s a deep lake. I will go one more time I think. Going to be a long winter. |

I agree it will be a long winter, but I just bought a new, insulated ice shelter and plan on spending more time on the lake this winter. Figure we won't be going to Arizona in late winter to watch some spring training games like we had planned, so spent the money on that. |

Yes, Second and Third are ice covered. From what I could see from shore, looked like a good chunk of Moen had ice but not all. Don't know about 4th and 5th. They might have a lot of ice as well. Normally that would not be the case but last night there was virtually no wind and 11 degree temps can skim a lake quickly if no wind.

I don't think as much ice fishing happened last winter due to the slush on lakes, and now less pressure in the cold fall. Could be wrong on that as I don't ice fish. Does that equal more forage and worse fishing next year, or better fishing since fish were not hooked, pressured as much? or time will tell, or doesn't matter? just wondering. |

Number of folks ice fishing was less on the lake where I live because of the slush. First had to make sure your snow machine didn't get stuck, then shoveling slush to clear a spot was no fun either. Never set my tip downs so close together as I did when it was at its worst. Trying to hurry through that mess when a rod went down was as futile as running through knee deep mud. Guys trying to walk out really could not stray far from where the snowmobile trail crosses the lake. |

Deer season! I'm really only in it for Minnesota 55" fish anyway. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Looks like an average Winter for here if one believes the long range forecast from Noaa and the La Nina set up now. Could get more or average snow and slightly colder than normal.
The last month has been absolutely awful, but next week looks dry and warm...really good. Hope to have a whitetail swinging in the garage once it's over. |

| Just finished putting together my new insulated, flip over, ice shelter so for me the ideal would be cold temps early to make ice, minimal snow and not too much snow later. I figure since I now have shelter as opposed to sitting on a bucket on the ice, this winter will be sunny and warm. |

Ice is finally gone completely where I live East of Rhinelander. Had still been some remnants yesterday on south shore where sun doesn't hit. Have not had to the boat in so can't tell you the water temps, but was in the lake yesterday helping a neighbor whose stacked dock pieces got tossed in the lake by last weekends wind. Water was much colder than I expected given the 70 degree air temps. Couple boats dragging suckers and casting while I was outside working a little while ago. Looked like a lot more fun than doing the late fall chores I was doing! |
