Location: Pewaukee, WI | I want to get organized for next year by having replacement hooks ready to go. Looking at all my baits there is a wide variety of sizes and shapes of hooks...round bend, shortshank, etc. What brand and style of replacement hooks do you use?. Does anyone replace the hooks on a bait when they are new?. Also, what's the best way to remove the rust from hooks after a season of use? Thanks |

Soak your rusty trebles in BreakFree or Firepower FP10 for an hour or so, then just wipe off the rust with a rag. Use a toothbrush to get under the barb and inside the eye.

| Just dump a bottle of coke-a cola into a can and throw your pliers,files,hooks or what ever you got that is rusty and the next morning they will be like new!Cheap and very easy! |

| I carry a selection of 2/0 through 5/0 hooks in the boat at all times. Trying to match up similar varieties isnt easy sometimes, so then I'll change them all.
Went to larger T'd Eagle Claw Laser Sharps on the front of all of my lures this year. 8" gliders and jerks all have the front two hooks T'd. Also eliminated the middle hook on anything 6" or less.
Buy a variety of sizes, style is up to you. Just make sure that they are sharp and strong.
Rusty ones get tossed automatically. Rust weakens metal....period. Willing to chance a 52" fish hooked on a rusty hook instead of spending a few bucks for new hooks? I'm not.

| I've been very satisfied using the VMC 9650 in 2/0-5/0 for nearly everything. Yes, I sometimes replace new hooks if I don't have confidence in them. Never had a failure with the 9650. |
