Looking at the forecast for northern WI and see daily highs all below 60 degrees for next week and beyond with lows in the 30s. With water temps around 60, next week has got to get things moving into turnover, right? In my experience it happens when lakes I fish get to about 54 or 53. These air temps are lower than average but I'm wondering if it's enough to push things over the edge even though it seems very early. Maybe it will depend on how much sun/clouds there is to warm the water back up during the day.

I'm wondering what's the feeling for this weekend? Warm on Friday then things start to go down fast. I'm thinking the fish are in medium depth weeds now under 10' but by the end of the weekend maybe super shallow? How are the weeds looking on your lakes, still green?

Minocqua Chain is still green weeds and fish are on all parts of the weed beds. Been finding biggest fish nearest the thickest weeds, but have also gotten some on the edges. Water temps are 60-62. When the that last cold drop happened the fish moved shallow into thick milfoil, so assuming that will happen again as it is still very green.

Here in Oneida County, just outside Rhinelander, weeds are still green but spent a couple hours kayaking on Tuesday and noticed there was a lot of floating grass, which always happens in the fall. Makes for messy fishing. Inch and a half of rain last night may impact water temps.
The Hodag Musky Challenge is this weekend, last I heard was right around a hundred teams on five bodies of water. That should give some idea of where the fish are. Tuesday there were 8 boats on one of the lakes in the chain, looked to be pre-fishing and they were fishing weeds and out. No real pattern as to how those boats were fishing. 8 boats on a Tuesday early afternoon in September just doesn't happen without the pending tournament.

Fished a couple smaller Vilas county lakes this last week. Water temps were 58-59ish. Every weed bed I fished was green and healthy still. Even with the cool down next week I still think it'll be a bit yet.

Sounds like my plan should be easy this weekend. Start shallow in the weeds and work out until I find something. Anything else to try other than a fat bastard and a junior dbl cowgirl? I dont think ill touch the rubber other than maybe a poseidon. Have bucktails of all sizes. Might try some cranks over weeds if they only come up to 4 or 5 feet of the surface.

Storm blew through last night with heavy rains, lightning, and hail. Flat calm and 68° today. No fish.

62-64 today on the Three Lakes Chain. Spectacular lightning show looking north from the pier last night.. Only hookup was a small one on a Shallowraider. Threw 8s, Suicks, and regular bulldawgs all day long. Beats sitting on the couch.

Got a little 31" sunday morning in the weeds on a spinnerbait. Saw another caught later in the day. Water temps 59 today before leaving.

This afternoon in Oneida County, saw temps from 60 to 62. Guessing with the cooling trend it will be heading down.

There's still some very aggressive muskies willing to bite! Was out tonight and had a huge boil on a spinnerbait. Waited a few minutes and did a cast back with a 9" jerkbait and she bit...hard. After a quick tussle she got off and torpedoed horizontally across the water about 3 feet. Was quite the sight!

turnover was underway on smaller lakes (<200 acres under 30' max depth) saw it first on hand on two different bodies of water. Larger systems were hanging at 57.5*. Minocqua area.

I had to head home from there on 9/27... no choice.. the resort owner did his best to convince me "You should have been here next week"... just couldn't make it work.
