With all the attention it seems directed at the big popular waters in Minn and Wis, it's time to find some smaller, hidden lakes. Long lake in Chippewa county seems interesting. Good depth, stocking history. Anybody fish this lake? Overall impressions? Kdawg

Just seen a picture in my local newspaper of a 50 incher recently taken out of Long. Figures. On paper, it all adds up to what it takes. Just might pay it a visit this October. Kdawg

Dude, are you serious?? How about the fisherman who submitted the picture and the story? And the editor who published it? And why don't we add the dnr who added the stocking info in their data base website? "Genius". Kdawg

I think you are still safe. My kids would never call this "social media"...

By posting this youve already shared it with more people than would read the local newspaper (who probably already fish it). Many of them wiling to travel. Did you know theres a search function that will allow you to see every mention of a specific lake on this website? You don't even have to be a member to use it.

Most every lake is stocked. Doesnt mean they can support fish growing another 40" after that point.

Posting online about "smaller, hidden lakes" is not the smartest idea.

Vilas15, take it up with the moderators. By your way of thinking, no lake should be written about. That would do so much good for all the local businesses in the area who rely on tourism for there survival, especially during this year. The lake does not belong to you or me. Perhaps you would like Slamr to remove the fishing report and destination section on this site? That would be fair, wouldn't it? I wonder what was going through the fisherman's head when he submitted the picture and the story to a newspaper? Do you think he wanted his story to be told? He caught the fish, it's his decision to make, not yours or mine. In my opinion, " Lake X", does not exist anymore because any knowledgeable muskie fisherman does lake research prior to there trip. And thats why the dnr provides the info. on there site. The next time someone asks about a lake, or other body of water I fished in the past, I'll just take your advice and let them figure it out for themselves. That would be the selfish thing to do. No issue with the fisherman submitting his story. You can post what you want too. Just wanted to make sure you're aware of the audience here. You're asking to discuss "hidden" lakes is working to make them less hidden. Just post a thread asking for reports on Long and nobody would be on you.

Not discussing any lakes is one extreme, and posting GPS coordinates of every fish you catch is the other, The bigger and more popular a lake is the more people are generally comfortable sharing info since it's already known. People are pretty good here about sharing info through PMs on specific spots on lakes if someone goes through the trouble of posting and asking. I think that's a good way to go.

Regarding stocking data, I can point you to a lake that gets 1000 large fingerlings every other year and you won't catch a #*^@ thing. It still takes some more involved knowledge and digging to get the good info. I know multiple lakes I fish with a 50" in the last few years. But if I'm in the area I'll make sure to stop at Long :).
