MuskieFIRST is in transition to a better, lightning fast system, and I have a question for you all:

If you could ask for ONE section to be added (example: Chat Room), what would it be? Winter is approaching, and it is our desire to creat a place for anyone interested in Muskies to relax, talk Muskies, and perhaps learn, or teach a bit of Muskie Knowledge!!

How about some topo maps of popular lakes with hotspots on them??

What about a lure review/building/modifaction section. As this is critical to catching muskys and seems to spark an intrest in all ski-chasers!As far as I know no one else has such a thing? You could feature a bait a month?Best mod? Most fish?Easist to work?Running depths?Best hooks?Tougest split-rings?That would really be Handy(man)!Jeff

As an avid lure builder, I whole heartedly agree with the previous post. I think many of us create, tinker with, adjust, or sometimes ruin many of the baits we own.

Most fishermen like to have a wide assortment of baits and a section on creating and modifying baits would be beneficial. I trust there is a vast knowledge base out there just waiting to be tapped.

Thanks,

J.P.

Thanks for asking Steve,

I like Hanymans idea, believe it could offer some useful info and would take a while to run through the gamit of baits that most muskie hunters use. I know many do not have access to digital cameras but being able to send a picture of you favorite "mod" would certainly be a big plus to this type of forum.

Great idea Jeff....

Chat room would be nice but I think it would need to be moderated to ensure it stays on a friendly/professional level. If we could manage to line up a few guest speekers.... Tuesday nights are "Sponge Night"...[]

Like I've mentioned to you and Jason before if any outside help is needed I'll do what I can to further the cause..

Don't know last time you were in Lk. Mills but I sent an e-mail there for you earlier this week. Let me know if you didn't get it.

CHAT ROOM....moderated by Slamr, of course. We know he's the best at keeping things clean and under control [;)] .

We could also have a "Let's Bash the CFMS" continuous update....naw, too easy []

Still voting for the Chat Room....best way to learn from others. Still gotta thank 0723 for the advice to SLOW DOWN my presentations this year, probably has helped to put a few more fish in the boat. And yes, I would be happy to moderate.....thinking of a number of topics to discuss, one or 2 even have to do with muskies! BUT, DocEsox, if you bring up that CFMS again, I'm going to start calling your daughter again!!!!!

Steve:

I like the lure modification idea as long as you can go into a painful level of detail with close up pictures. For example: Where and how can I weight a crane bait without destroying it? Or maybe even better, where should I put the JB inserts to avoid the rattle chambers on a Jake?

The chat room was nice on MC last year when scheduled speakers were available. However, the limit of 25 simultaneous connections was frustrating. There are some 3-D chat apps available that might be attractive for those times there is not a scheduled speaker.

I’m still hung up on the need for a central repository of fish catches we talked about at the board meeting. Winter is a great time to research and find your next destination or learn more about where you have been focussing your time. The MI database sucks for this. [;)]

A few of us have used the boards this year to meet and fish with new faces. I’ve learned a lot from fishing with new people this year and had a great time....including Slamr (there goes my reputation) Perhaps you could build a mechanism for people to better find others who are boaters/non-boater who are willing to fish with new people?

ps. If you are thinking about letting Slamr moderate chats, perhaps better that you don''t have a moderater at all? []

JM_03,
I'm going to hold off on being nasty for now.....another moment of weakness. Somewhat like when I let you convince me to get off a lake 20minutes after I moved a 30-35lb. fish. I think the wedding planning is making me SOFT.

"Anything" that will bring the big name pros back to these web boards so we can ask questions they seem to have abandoned the websites and I dont think it has anything to do with the season and fishing

I to like the idea of a handyman section[8)]

How about a button on the menu to see who else is currently on muskiefirst and perhaps some way to invite them to a chat. Kind of like a messenger system. I'm figuring this would require you to sign in every time we come here, but I don't appreciate annonymous post anyways. Usually seems like they don't have anything good to say or they would take the time to sign-in or sign-up.

Chat room would be nice when the snow flies and the cold wind blows, ( or does it suck? )[:((] I like the handymans idea as well, I have a neat little fixture for bending loops in leader and bucktail wire. Also have some good ideas for bucktails. I think the ideas are good anyway.[] Any of you guys want make contact to fish here in Western WI or need info about the lakes around here, just ask
( unless it's tournament time ). You can reach me at my e mail address: [email protected]

I've never been in the chat rooms. What is the difference between a “message board” and a “chat room”?

Posted 11/2/2001 9:01 PM (#14662)
Subject: Question For All Our Visitors

A Chat room is like instant messenger, only there can be as many as 35 to 50 visitors there. We have regular celebrity guests during a weekly hour long conversation, and several regulars converse there every evening.

The converstaion scrolls down the screen as it is entered, so a good moderator is essential. Jason Smith handled the room on MC for us last year, and did a GREAT job![8)]

JoMusky:

Lots of people use AOL's Instant Messenger (which is free and doesn't require you to be an AOL customer). Perhaps Sworrall could find a way to make an AOL IM directory?

A hooter's girl page would be nice. Better yet a Slamr page with pictures he finds while surfing.

Seriously though a comprehensive data base of every musky water in the us and canada with a little info on each.[]

we are nearly ready to install our new systems, so THINK out of the box...what would be the SINGLE best resource available to you here? We are only going to be using a TINY portion of the server's capacities, so expansion is a certainty.

Steve, I really like the lake info database idea. It would be alot of work but a good idea. [:)]

hey sworral, I second handyman's reply. I think that there are a lot of people out there who want to build some lures themselves when looking at all the replies I got so far, be it bucktails/spinnerbaits/jerkbaits/crankbaits/surface lures/..., and there is very little to be found.
Also, if you lure doesn't work to your satisfaction, what can you try to improve its action and perhaps turn a dudd into a killer. All this would be very interesting. Gathering the info on the message baords about these modifications/lurebuilding instructions in a few articles would be a good start. And seeing as freeze-over is coming soon (sad) everybody will have time on their hands to tinker with their baits = after-fun!! Looking at these damaged and brand new lures, getting it all organised for next season ... that almost beats fishing itself! Oh, who am I kidding, it doesn't even come close!!! [;)]

I'll take on the food section....though I can't get enough to eat most of the time, I keep trying to put on weight to bolster my 175lb. frame to well over 200! I figure you guys can help....also I'm a trained counselor + feel certain I can help many of the board regulars on here...LOL[;)] [:0] [:sun:]

That is exactly why I put this thread up...did you read the entire thing? New equipment, our own servers and dedicated line...so the question IS what would you like to see as a new resource here at MuskieFIRST>>>>??

I think a chatroom would be really good. But I also like the idea of equipment reviews. How about just an equipment reviews board and a chat room?

I would like to see that chatroom....Tell me what night and time.

I think the "Handyman's Corner" sounds like a great idea too. I haven't yet mastered the are of improvising, adapting and overcoming yet.

One must focus on the abstract grasshopper.....imagine yourself as being in an actual room where chatting is taking place....become as a chocolate bar sitting on the dashboard of an old pick-up truck in the hot August sun.....as you begin to melt into your enviroment you will then become one w/ that where you are! Works great....soon you will master the chat board + seek other self confidence builders while building not only character but also a name for yourself as one who mastered the other stuff you tried....wish Monica would get home....my brain isn't the only thing starving!!!![:0] [:sun:]

Would it be possible to have a blackboard or something similar so that diagrams could be posted?
