| Was out this week end and not much going on, 4 boats on the lake.
At about mid day a boat came by and asked how we doing. We said Did'nt see a thing, maybe a tap on a slow moving crank or may be pick up on a sucker. He said it was slow on his side of the lake, but told us he had tried to revive a muskie with a bad jaw but just would not right it self.
The other boat had seen it also and tried but no Dice. So another boat went to see it and it was DEAD by now .Please take a look at the pixs I posted and tell me if this was done on purpuse or just be being mis-handled. I think this was done on purpuse to let this fish die in agony.

Location: Valentine, NE USA | For starters, the pictures weren't very clear but...
The first thing I thought was that the fish may have been placed on a stringer and somehow jerked it's way free...my theory says whoever caught it, made a small cut in the soft tissue (rather than looping through the jaw) to insert the stringer, fish thrashes wildly after going back into the water, jerks free, swims away and the insuing infection seals it's fate.
It's obviously an old wound that had festered up. Infection looks pretty bad.
Sad. Just plain sad.

Location: oswego, il | It does look like was on a stringer and the damage done that way. Maybe somebody told them it was under the limit, who knows, either way a waste. |

Location: Algonquin, ILL | Looks to me like ToddM did a Jimmy Houston and kissed it on the lips ( Just Kidding Todd hope to run into you at the Chicago show again ) other than that I agree it looks like stringer damage as the rest of the fish looks to be fine, what a waste

Location: Ft. Wayne Indiana | Knowing the practices down in Ky, I would say it might have been on a stringer, tied to a dock or back of a boat. Maybe it was chewing Copenhagen for to long as well.... Never know down there!
Never really know the whole story from just pictures, but it would be sad to see a nice fish get treated to bad.
That really sucks.

| Seriously, it looks to be some sort of infection. Maybe someone actually did try to release that fish a year ago and did alot of damage to it and removed all of the protective slime and infection set in. I've caught bass that were released successfully and were caught again that had growths that looked like tumors on their lips and gill plates.
Judging by the condition of the jaw, it doesn't appear that it was something that happened recently. Growths like that take a while to appear. Just ask Slamr.
