Go to the bottom of the Message Board Mainpage, and you will see a line of text that looks like this when the chatroom is in use:

5 Users in the MuskieFIRST Live Chat Room: ToddM zach Leinenkugels crazycanuck Schuler

Now it will be easy to see who's in the room anytime, and join the conversation. Winter makes for a pretty busy room, so check in often.
