| looking at getting a trolling rod. I have been looking a the chaos tackle Assault stick trolling and live bait rod and the shimano TDR trolling rod. My Questions for buying a trolling rod is what length rod 8'6, 9 , 9'6? Also what action do you like Medium, medium heavy or heavy? thanks |

Location: Michigan | MH is a good all around action for most baits. Heavy would probably be a good choice for your harder pulling and bigger baits like 13" grandmas, headlocks, etc. I like shorter rods (7') for down rods and then longer rods for planer board rods. |

Location: Delavan, WI | I agree with the shorter rod for trolling, it's easier to net a fish especially by yourself with a 7' rod I do not use anything longer than 8' for trolling, and prefer a little bit of give over a stiff rod |

Location: Walker, MN | If you go TDR, the 8' heavy is a good all around action. Shrink tubing on the eva foam, and they are ready for years of use. The parabolic action is perfect for keeping fish pinned imo. |

Location: oswego, il | Bass pro 7ft power plus boat rod. Get the two heavier actions. Perfect for either situation and won't break the bank. |

| I run the Shimano TDR 8' heavy, and put the x-wrap shrink tubing over the eva foam handle and foregrip. Good all around trolling rod for me for both downrod and planer boards. I have a couple of the 9'6" TDRs for this year that I started running on the outside planer boards where regs allow 3 lines per person, they seem to have a bit more bend to them than the 8', haven't caught a fish yet on the longer rods. Good luck! |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | chaos assault stick 8's are my favorite rods. from 5" baits to 12" mattlocks, they work just fine. I have two 9's and 4 8's. I wished i had all 8's for netting fish. |
