As the Hayward post stated, MN water temps are high as well. 80 degrees this AM on a far northern mn lake. Need some big wind and rain. We should all hold off.

I'm taking a couple of days off, surface temps on Leech will be 80 Friday afternoon and Saturday. I'm hoping clouds, rain and a bit cooler lows in the 60's next week will bring the temps down a little.

Any ideas on water temps in the Alexandria to Detroit Lakes areas recently? Was thinking of going for muskie or walleye and curious if I'll need to change plans. Thanks!

A couple degrees either side of 80 depending on time of day. Today's cool front may back it off a hair but just at the surface and not for more than a day or so.

Edited to add: I saw a low of 76 in very shallow water but the bulk was 78 range tonight. Will pop up quickly thursday-friday

Really depends on the lake. I had steady water temperatures in the shallows today at about 74 top to bottom with good wave action. If you find cooler water with wave action (ie good dissolved oxygen levels), you should be good...as long as the fish cooperate by shifting shallow. But you know how often muskies cooperate.

Shop around. There can still be some safe, fishable water if the weather smiles on you. I wouldn’t fish deep and bring them up from 72 to 80 by hauling them out of the depths. That thermal gradient is stressful as hell. I’d also be wary of lower surface temperatures over deeper water. Sometimes those lower surface temperatures are only skin deep.
