Location: Oshkosh,WI | What size Calcuttas do most of you use? My lack of knowledge on muskie fishing has brought me here to ask the more knowledged. I am going to get 2 rods and want to make sure which size reels to get. Thanks a bunch!

Location: Eagle River, Alaska | Like 0723 I have used primarily a 251 and have loved it. But if they made a larger lefthanded model....say a 401 I would probably use that simply for the increased spool size....would help with retrieve speed I am sure. Great reels.

the 250 on a bucktail rod. Awesome.
the 400 on my heavy action rod for big baits, trolling, and sucker fishing.
Remember, the 250 does not have a clicker, at least mine does not being a couple years old. Makes a big difference for trolling and suckers.
Troy, I would most certainly get one of each if you're getting 2 rods. The 250 is an absolute pleasure to throw on a lighter action rod, like a bucktail rod. Easy on the hands and sits so nice in your palm. But a 400 is also a must for the reasons I stated above. It is also a very smooth reel.

Location: Chicago, Beverly | 400is basically what shimano calls their musky reel. It is about the size of a 6500 garcia. 250 will work for musky but has less line capacity. With the 400 I can get 100yds of 36lbs Musky Master on it, a 250 will be a lot less. If you go with a super braid you normally have a backing line underneath the super line thus making the amount of super line you put on quite a bit less then what the reels total capacity is. I will reccomend getting at least one 400 if you are getting 2 combos. |

Location: Oshkosh,WI | If I go with one of each I should be fine eh? I will match a 7' MH and a 7'H rod with the reels...Put the 250 on the MH and the 400 on the H. If this sounds good to you guys let me know. Thanks for the responses..I am clueless about these godzilla fish. I have to have a decent setup though if I am going to be hanging out with a bunch of muskie nutz.
