Mike Morse (no relation, but fellow musky lunatic) drove the 3 hr (normal 2.25 hr) trek to my place this morning and we hit the lake with 34.5 degree water temps, howling wind and snowing so hard you couldnt see past 1/2 way down the lake.

We started at 7:30 AM and pulled out at 2:30. Mike had to get home for family events and I was out of dry gloves, plus the boat was about full of snow!!
We had a great day on the water. I had 4 or 5 up on my new favorite bait, the Bullhead Wabull and Mike had another up on a burt.

One of the fish I had on the wabull smacked me pretty good at the start of the retrieve, it took another swipe 1/2 way in, then another in the second turn of the figure 8. At that time, it shot off and smacked his suick..that fish was hungry!! Nice chunky upper 30's.

Little while later the fattest 45 I have ever seen took his sucker and the battle was on. Mike had it a ways behind us on a bobber, set the hook right away and reeled it into the net.

Two excellent fall fatties to make the miserable drive and conditions worth while.

Was great to meet you Mike, hope to share a boat again sometime.

crazy pics attached.

Wow what a score for the day!Love the white snow loaded pictures!Specialy the one in the driveway.

Did your reels freeze up during the day much?

Next time build a snowman in the boat.

Awesome fish and photos. I've never fished muskies in that much snow but it looks like it was a blast.

Hey guys great job. Always keep some salt to throw down in the boat. keeps the snow melted and you won't slip and fall into the lake.

There are some rewards to putting oneselves through tough conditions. Right after the big fattie was released, both Greg and I started to feel the cold and we packed it in. What were we thinking.....the big girls were just starting to bite??!!

Greg, thanks for the invitation to join you. I appreciate the spot in your boat and had a blast - obviously You put us on some fish and showed me something with that Wabull (can I get me some of that?). Great photos and thanks for posting them for me. I'll play host to you over my way next season. I also hope the bow hook will be taken care of o.k. - my bad.

Thanks for the snowy condition suggestions, guys. Definitely a snowman and salt next time. And there WILL BE a next time in those conditions for me. I highly recommend them.

Great fish. As someone who had troubles in that kind of water temp, could you please tell me the pattern in which you were catching them.

Thanks
Cory

Mike, no problem, look forward to the next time. Hoping the breeze kept up last nite so I can get out again wed/turkeyday...but got a feeling theres some ice out there this brisk morning.

Muskie E, nope didn't get iced up at all. We were able to tuck in out of the worst of the wind for the most part. We did venture out into some breezier parts of the lake to get at some similar structure and still did ok as far as staying ice free. We did have another ski up and a GIANT pike (all of 40", maybe over)smacked the Wabull good but i muffed the catching part...DOH!

Cory....we were fishing a steep shoreline. The boat was in 10-12" and a long castlength from shore.....1/2 way to shore the depth is still 10', so the shore drops fast. Down below is scattered stumps. This area is where I moved the 5 I had up Sat. afternoon and they were still aggresssive in this area on sunday for us. luckily the wind was from the same dircetion, N/NE, and we got to fish in pretty calm area.
The baits that moved fish were the Wabull and Burt...big glides with fast twitches, but long pauses. Last thurs when the water was a few dgress warmer and the air was a LOT warmer, twitched shallow raider was getting action.

We did slide shallower a couple of times, into some cut in bays that were in the 4-7' range with beautiful green new fall curly pondweed growth about 12" off the bottom, that is where the humongo pike was, and I caught a dink pike in it sat afternoon.....never saw a ski there.

the 45"er that hit the sucker was in 11' and the sucker was 4-5' down from the bobber.(exact same area that I got harrassed by the mid 40's the day before)

what a hoot yesterday was, showed the pics to some people.....funny to see the look on their face..."You guys are NUTZ!!"

Great pictures! I sure hope they don't use too much road salt and mess up that ranger.

Great fish, and incredible pictures. Proves what most folks suspect about muskie anglers.

I am in for lunch, then back to the woods. Blowing hard and 20 degrees with snow once in awhile. Perfect!

Greg,

How much snow did you end up with and how far did you trailer your boat in that to get to the lake?

I wanted very badly to get out in that yesterday. But because of the 10"+ that we were getting here, I didn't want to pull the boat 80 miles round trip. I was wishing all day that I lived closer to the lake because I figured they would have been going good yesterday.

Nice job on the great day on the water!
