Trying to compile more info (to be visible on site in the future) about what gear MuskieFIRSTers use (see the "whats your rod/reel compliment" thread on the Pro Perspective forum) and the question now turns to your boat and trailer:

Boat:
Make?
Model?
Motor?
Trolling Motor?
Locators?
GPS?
Misc. Extra's?
Downriggers/Rod Holders?

Truck:
Make?
Model?
Year?
Engine Size (v-6 or 8?)

My boat that I have possession of right now is basically sold, so I'll lead off with what next year's rig is going to be:

Patriot 1810 "The Boxer"
2004
150HP Merc (not sure which one just yet)
74lb. Trolling Motor
6 Tempress "fish-on" rod holders
Garmin 240s front and console
no GPS
MarCum underwater camera
*not sure of the extras

Truck:
1999 Isuzu Rodeo
V-6
no 4WD (d'oh!)

how about you????

My whole set up costs less than many motors on M1 members' boats. I'm poor but proud.

Boat:

1974 14' Blue Fin, alum semi-deep v, customized for muskie fishing
15h/p Merc motor
Minn Kota Maxxum 55# (yes, 55# thrust, makes a wake behind the boat)
Hummingbird 300 Side Finder

Truck:

1994 Ford 150XLT 4X4 w/extended cab and that gas sucking 5.0 motor
190K on the truck, still runs great, but soon to be traded in for an older Jeep Cherokee

Kicker Motor - 1997 Johnson 15
Locators - indash Lowrance X15 (junk!!), bow mount Eagle Fish ID (beauty)
Troll Motor - 59 lb Evinrude (will upgrade to a 74 Minn Kota soon!)

Towed By
Truck - Ford
Model - F150 Lariat
Year - 1997
Engine - 4.6 (does a fine job, but 5.4 would handle hills better - but I cannot complain, 364,000 km/250,00 miles and runs like new (knock on wood!)

I have been very fortunate with both - truck has had very few problems and only problem with boat was a new power pack two years ago and the new onboard charger.

Good topic.

Here is what I chase muskies with:
MY TUB:
1800 Pro-V SE (Dual Console)
Yamaha 150 (Fuel & Oil Injected)
Minn-Kota PowerDrive, with Autopilot (that works when it feels like it)
2-Lowrance X-85s (Stern and Bow)
Lowrance GPS Handheld with Ram mount for dash

TOW VEHICLE:
FORD
EXPLORER (4WD)
2003
210 Hp V-6

Slamr, make sure you get 4WD bud. You will regret it later if you dont man. If you can afford it, a V-8 or V-6 with at least 250 Hp would also make your life a lot easier when your out hunting "skis."

I have one of the best trucks ever made, now I just have to find a perfect boat. I don't have any complaints about the 14' Big Fish, but I want a 17 or 18 footer with walk-thru windshield. The Mariner has been absolutely perfect (too bad I can't say the same for larger HP Mercs....like 75s and 90s that cough and studder regularly). I would like a 30 or 35HP, but this Mariner would be hard to part with. Someone please make an affordable mapping GPS with digitized maps of Ontario Lakes and rivers. I'll buy 3!

I make due with a hand-me down boat from my Father in-law. Paid next to nothing for it and have dumped several grand into it getting it to run. It had been in storage for years with no more than 50 total hours on the engine. Had to do a major rebuild of all seals, gaskets, etc. Just got it running great this spring and put hundreds of hours on it this year. I had a major failure of the lower unit last trip out. Add another $2K of repairs and I should be back on the water.......

Well, it appears that I take the prize for smallest boat/motor. (FishOn uses a canoe and trolling motor, but he hasn't responded). Maybe Worrall will give me one of those old, discontinued Patroits because he feels so bad for me.

You should have also asked, "How many fish did you personally boat this year?"

Ahhhhh- The water equivalent of a "Crotch Rocket"!

Boat: Skeeter  "ESOX Maniac"

Model: 1988 SF150 - 17' 6"

Motor: 1989 Johnson 150HP w/power trim.

Troller: Johnson 1988 12V/24V - no clue as to the thrust.

Sonar: Eagle mounted halfway between front casting deck & steering console- swivel's for dual use.

Marine Radio

Panasonic component stereo- next upgrade!

+50" live well w/divider removed- + dual pumps! This was a tournament bass boat.

Rear casting deck is awesome, and center area is sunken so it make releases really nice. Not a big rough water boat but very fishable, i.e. low to water and stable.

Truck: Sold my 1978 k-5 Blazer- "Wild Thing" w/6" lift & 33" tires when we moved to Rhode Island in 1999. Now!  Whatever I can find to pull the boat with! Have a hard time spending +30k for a truck. But have a couple of good friends who like to fish & don't have a boat. New truck is next year's budget.

As for Ranger's "little" Muskie Fishing Machine- I'm surprised he disclosed the HP, the cover says "10HP". It's awesome- a veritable muskie fishin' platform. I've caught 3 of my last 4 Muskies fishing from Ranger's boat (44", 39.5" & 41"), so it really doesn't matter what the boat is- you have to be in the right spot w/ the right lure. Plus, it helps to have a great netman like Ranger.

Hi Guys, we are brand new this year. 2003 18ft Starcraft superfisherman with Bimini top 93" wide. Big 24volt minkota bowmount with remote steering and speed. Lowrance x-88 at the counsil and a x-51 at the bow. All track mount downeasters and Cannon downriggers with twin masts for 31" Talonz Planer boards. Power is the new 2004 115 hp Merc Optimax dont need a kicker. 24 different trolling rods most with Okuma 20 and 30 dx reels and some ABUS in the mix. Roller lowrider trailor puts this boat in and out in less than 12" of water. Great big water ride ,dry and very stable. Kingfisher 1996 1 TON FORD van for the trips and a 2000 Ram 1500 4wd for the short hauls.

Older hull heavier than the new ones Doesn't come out of the hole as well. The Yamaha has run like a champ. Vantage trolling motors two thumbs up. Looking forward to the power drive/AP, have a 74 stick control on front now.
