I dont like trolling but am starting to warm up to the idea more. I havent done alot of reading on the subject and was wondering what is the biggest reason trolling seems to be so connected with fall,,Is it because you can keep your lure at depths not atainable casting or is it because you can stay warmer then casting,,what is the ONE key element of fall trolling

I troll regularly, and not just in the fall. However, trolling in the fall is more productive (at least on the shield lakes that I fish) because your lure is always in the strike zone; it's where the baitfish are; you cover a LOT more water-faster; and it's where I've found the big girls to be.

Give it a try, it's worth it!

Because you can!! It's the most wonderful time of the year....allows one to kick back + reflect on what has been, the present + the hope for things to come....use this time not for self abasement but for self improvement! Enjoy that which is around, over + underneath you.....stare into the water....let your fingers flip lightly on the surface as you slowly zig zag along the breakline.....take along a jar of Uncle Josh Minnows + hand feed a loon....use this time as an opportunity to eat large quantities of food to prepare for the winter ahead, especially that famous rice soup you have discovered....wave to everyone you see....share what is yours w/ those at the ramp....invite others to troll in a staggered trail formation; much like one would conduct a deer drive...repair small appliances....drift aimlessly across large bodies of water + re-discover yourself....the list goes on + on....these are just a few things I enjoy doing! Now get out there mr Happy + troll as you never have before!!![:sun:] [:sun:] [:sun:] [:sun:] [:sun:]

I love trolling when fish (northerns and/or baitfish) are lying deeper than 3m, otherwise I prefer casting. I feel it is more effective when they are still in reach of a casted bait. I find that I usually get a bit sleepy while trolling when there's no action! The odd accident has occured where I crashed into a drunken (what did you expect[] ) sailor who motored his boat straight out of the pub's harbour 4m in front of me. I was too busy checking out that breakline that I didn't even notice him leaving that bar until I felt the impact of the collision. He never even knew he crashed into us and just continued his zigzagging course, looking like "eeh, can't touch this ... na nananana nanana nanana .. can't touch this"[:sun:] []
