When adding threaded brass inserts for weight systems how do you seal the lure without filling the threads with epoxy?

I have added them post finish I would imagine that's how most do it.

That's what I was thinking, or maybe add a screw to plug it up until finished with paint and epoxy. I'm going to try it both ways on some D&R baits I have been working on.

Epoxy over them clean them out with a small drill bit (a dremel or power wood carver works) clean out with a 6/32 tap(careful with tap). Done thousands like that.
