Anyone else here been out pike fishing this year? I live in south east mn so I’m only 30mins from pool 4 of the Mississippi and fish it quite often. A friend and I Hit some backwaters around the wabasha area last Sunday and had between 30-40 fish in a 5 hour trip. Mostly pike between 20-30ā€ with some bass and bowfin mixed in so nothing crazy but it felt great to get out and not struggle to get bites. Coolest part of the day was the last 2 hours we got onto a great pattern where pike were in 1-2fow on a flooded flat feeding on perch and Shad. There were easily hundreds of pike all around us on this couple acre spot. We were throwing either 5-6ā€ paddletail swimbaits on a weedless hook or a top water walking bait. Was so cool watching a wake form behind the bait and knowing you were going to get bit, half the time we were site fishing them too which was sweet. Water temps were between 48-62 depending on what backwater we were in. If you guys can make it to the lower Mississippi or have some waters you can legally fish for pike give it a go, this was easily one of the most fun trips I have had in years.
