This weekend we are expecting a warm front in our area.  What do you guys find when we have a strong warm front this late in the season, muskies on the move eating or lock jaw?  What are you doing differently when there's a warm front this late in the year?

If I remember right, the last warm spell we had coming was in conjuction withn the full moon also. I did'nt see a whole lot of activity then (at least not an increase from what was happening).
Now with this warm spell coming and the lakes I will be hitting are newly opened after being ice-covered for a few weeks. Could be an interesting twist.

I'm gonna pound shallow, even though I'm pretty sure the cisco's are done, my last 3 trips in less than 40 degree water has shown fish in less than 8' of water.

If the fish don't go on the slow moving stuff try some eratic baits. I have been thinking about twitchin some Slammers or Jakes to get a reaction strike on warm days. It seems like the warmer it gets the slower the action gets.

Sunday I think it will start a cold front, that might get things going.

I am going to hunt with my daughter the opener and then?????

I have the whole week off !!!!

Ye ha !!!

Try some topwaterbaits that usually works for the fall warming periods.0723

Fishing through cold water and fishing with both upper halves of a lake iced up, my observations are that warm fronts are good, but high humidity is more important. I would use the same baits I was using earlier in the year and would not get too far out into slow presentations. Fish good areas and keep the bait and the boat moving. You need to be presenting the bait to more fish to find an active one and you need to have a bait in the water when they do make a movement. Sometimes you will see fish scattered throughout the day even in cold weather when they are active, and there is still a dusk bite even when your hiny is freezin, and it may be the only musky you see all day, but it only takes one to kill a skunk. My best cold water day would be a hazy, sunny day after a couple days of warming and maybe before it got cold and ready to snow again. If you have cover shallow, or good contours that bring them shallow earlier in the year, they will still come up in the winter to the places they liked when it was warmer.
