Hello guys,

I'm looking for a New reel to pair with my pounder rod.
Currently I have a tranx 400 on my Legend long ranger.

The reel I'm looking for has to be durable because it's going to get a lot of abuse due the heavy baits.
What do you guys prefer on the pounder rod?
I do owned a Calcutta conquest but I didn't like the round shape.

Regards,
Jasper

The 500 tranx is the most durable Muskie reel on the market right now.

What ^^^^^^^ said. The 500 will take the abuse of tossing big baits. I have acouple of them and they have been champs. If you are only throwing mag dawgs or like baits I would be comfortable with the 400 Tranx or similar reels (I am a Shimano go though). The 400 Conquests work for big rubber well too but they are pricey and (IMHO) not as good as the 500 for big rubber.

Yup Tranx 500 is the way to go. I have 4 of them and they get abused and keep working.

Coming from an Abu guy, I agree with the guys above. What's interesting about the Tranx is that Shimano has done nothing to it since it has come out on the market. No appearance or design changes or any type of upgrades. And the price has not changed either, at $499.99. A great example of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Obviously, a great reel from Shimano. Tranx 500 is the most durable reel on the market hands down. especially for rubber. Just look at the big time st.Clair guys and you will see they all use the tranx to through rubber.

Of the two 500’s the hg is the better choice for ripping big rubber. Also great for burning big bucktails.

I agree with everyone. Tranx 500 for the big stuff. But I will say I had good luck with a Lexa before I went to the Tranx. If you want to go cheaper...

Tranx 500HG if it fits your hands. That said, I have yet to experience an issue with any of my 400's
