How was it this weekend?

So how was it this weekend? I personally had a really good weekend and boated 2 and had 2 follows. The first one I caught on Saturday trolling shallow with a rapala J-13 (the biggest jointed lure they make) It was only 27 inches, but i got a picture and released it quickly. On Sunday I caught one of about 36" on the same rapala J-13, but when i was getting the lure out of the net the fish thrased and I got pretty much the hole hook shoved up my thumb. So it was over after I cut the hook, got a picture, released it and went to the hospital. All in all, my best weekend muskie fishing yet. (other than the fact that my thumb is just now starting to hurt)

Zach, hope your thumb is ok. I did not fare as well. Did not go out saturday. I knew my dad was chomping at the bit to look over this lund boat. Went out today sunday and got completely blown off silver lake. The trolling motor was no match for the gail we had today. Was off by 930 and hit the chain where we trolled untill dark. Lost a small fish when we took off the planer board. Popps slacked the line. It was blowing hard there too which got us a little wet.

First one on silver and the last one off the chain.

Todd, do you ever fish snakeden hollow? Somebody was showing me a few pictures of some big ones he caught there. I probobly wouldn't get there this year. (boat + fishing is actually getting good at carlton) But next year, I will have to go there a few times.

Hey Schuler,
just wondering if you knew if they close down snake den hollow in the fall for hunting? I heard this, but not sure if it is true? They shut down a small body of water that I love to fish in northeastern Il, right before things start to get good. Makes me mad. Any ways I have heard very good things about snake den hollow, especially from bass fisherman that are not used to seeing mini-subs[:p] .
take it easy
Kly
p.s. Have you noticed people still frequently taking fish from Carlton?

Yes, I have fished snakeden hollow. I have only been there three times. Caught a small one and seen fish every time out. Nothing huge but they are in there. I am not sure about it being closed for hunting. It may be closed like carlton is, for dear hunting with a shotgun. The tackle shop in town says they carry suckers in the fall so I am not sure. It's gin clear and deep but not hard to figure out where to fish. Beleive it or not it gets the bulk of it's fishing pressure at nite. At 9pm in the summer there can be 30 boats on the lake when at 7pm there were only two. They stock a decent amount in it too.

KLY, I have no idea if snakeden is closed for hunting or not. Carlton is closed for a week for deer hunting (the whole park, actually) As far as fish being taken from Carlton, I really think the problem is ceasing. Its the dock fishers that keep them, and none have been caught by the dock since June probobly. Also, I have talked to a few of those people that caught them off the docks, and most released them. I'm thinking only 2 or 3 fish kept all year. (most off the docks have been under 36") There is getting to be a lot of people there fishing for muskies. All of them catch and release. Tood, how deep is snakeden since you said its deep. And is it clear enough that you can see fairly deep down?
