| Reading the posts about late season Muskie Hunters adventures, the question is are Muskie Hunters more crazy than Duck Hunters? |

Location: Northwest Chicago Burbs | I dont know about duck hunters, but I am contemplating getting a Mustang Survival suit for fishing in near freezing weather. This is after realizing that one false move in the early spring (we start fishing the moment the ice thaws) or late fall and I could DIE!

Years ago, when I did a lot of late season diver hunting, the only time I was seriously cold was when picking up the dekes at the end, otherwise it was just a matter of dressing properly. With late season casting, my hands are worthless clubs most of the day. I hate to think of all the rods I've pitched overboard from lack of feeling. Any way you look at it, most people consider any outdoor recreation crazy. |

Location: DES MOINES, IOWA | More deaths by far from duck hunting.Low profile boats, under horsepowered, fishing areas off of big lakes, no bilge pumps, extreme cold water,and all of a sudden heavy winds.Bad combination.Exact scenario for my son up at Sabaskong this year.AT 4 a.m. powered off of the big lake into river, set up decoys, with no wind, however they got hit with 50/60 plus mile an hour winds while they were isolated back in swamp.Came out onto big lake, late morning into huge rollers, and only thing saving there butt was using a resort boat, instead of a duck boat.Nip and tuck as it was.He said that because of the island cofigurations,he was getting hit by rollers from different directions, making it difficult to handle the waves.Had no boat control at all,which caused the main problem.Many duck hunting deaths out East from people walking in, and getting hit with a sudden blizzard, and not getting out.We have had two other bad incidents duck hunting with my sons,including one sunk boat, so I know how dangerous this sport is, but we love it. In fact, I just got back from a 2 day trip duck hunting, where I shot a Hooded Merganser, and a full plumage Woody I am mounting.$350!I should have followed thru on those taxidermy classes, when I was younger. |

Location: Madison, WI | I was just thinking about this the other day. It has to be the musky hunters. I wouldn't trade my heated duck blind for a seat in a musky boat when its 40 degrees and below any day.

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | Mallards-n-Muskies, I was out yesterday draggin some meat around from 2pm till dark. I cranked up the mister heater about 4:30pm and let the wind blow the heat to me. Hands were nice and toasty in the pockets and I was very glad to have some warm air blowin againt me.
The ride back to the launch at 6pm was a different story, quite the nippy ride it was. I have done both and I think duck hunters are the crazyest. When I did it on the Mississippi we would go out hour or so before light in a over stuffed boat with dogs. That is as crazy as I needed to get when the water is 35 to 40 degrees.
Dogs in the dark in a low profile boat is dangerous, now add in the wind, current and a few noises close to the boat and you got a excited dog or two and a unstable boat---- that = trouble. |

Location: WI | I'm not sure, but I got duck hunting done in the morning and musky hunting done in the afternoon, then back to ducks in the evening last weekend. Not a bad day...... A few ducks in the AM, a couple of follows in the afternon, and should have stayed musky fishing in the evening. |

Location: Holly, MI | I think you both are crazy. Give me a nice warm tree to sit in when it is 17 degrees and I have to sit still for 3 hours holding my bow.
I certainly can see late season Musky fishing..but during the middle of the full blown RUT? |
