Location: Holly, MI | put a doe in the freezer already. Now it is time for a guy with headgear. The rut is full blown right now. I had two does running laps in a meadow this morning, looked like a race. then they went back to the edge of the woods and coaxed a nice 8 pt to follow them out. I got him to come my way with a couple of grunts but when the does took off he decided to follow. Priorities i guess. He was trotting behind them with his neck stuck way out trying to get a snif. Later a different single buck snuck along the hedgerow but wouldn't even respond to a grunt or rattle.
Finally some cold weather, didn't seem like hunting for a while.
Good luck all. CPR deer (catch, prepare, relish) |

Location: Holly, MI | Got a call from my dad that his neighbor saw a wounded doe in her yard headed towards his woods. All right , I'll come put it down (going to ruin my night of hunting). I search for this stinkin' deer for about an hour and a half then go in his house to tell him I'm giving up for now. Then I get the details. It was limping, had a hurt back leg. Somone obviously took a bad bow shot. Then he tells me it was running with 2 other does. Duh..this deer is ok. It is now quarter to 5 pm. It is getting dark pretty close to 6. I hustle home and put on my gear and get to my backyard stand just before 5. Not two minutes later my 90 pound dog makes three laps out in the wayback, cutting within 20 yards of my stand, this can't be good for deer hunting. He is looking for me, this night just isn't going right. By 5:15 I'm on the back porch telling my wife that I shot a buck. Only a 4 point, but they are all trophies to me with the bow. The best part of the hunt was having my 7 year old track it with me. Those young eyes are great. He had a blast finding the blood trail, even found some pin-head sized drops. There is still (I think) a 6 and a nice 8 back there somewhere. I saw the 8 yesterday and I have pictures of him from my camera (with the auto shutter/sensor).
They are still moving like crazy, go get 'em. |

| Duck,
Are the landings on Mille Lacs open or frozen in?
I heard they were all locked by ice? Was thinking of heading up for some musky fishing. Thanks. |

Location: Brainerd Area | most of them are locked up. i did hear from another site that there were a couple boats out this past weekend and did pretty good (walleyes). They had put in on the north end. All bays are frozen over.

Location: northern, MN | nice buck,
i got a nice 6 pointer at about 10 minutes to 8am. it wasn't nearly as heavy as yours, how much did he weigh. shot a nice doe yesterday morning that outweighed my buck by a good 20 pounds. I can shoot up to 3 more does so my season isn't quite over. |

| My bro was nice enough to let me take a picture with his 9 pointer. He shot it 7:05 am on Saturday and I got the doe about 4:30 Saturday.
That is him by the hanging buck and me by the hornless beast I actually did shoot. Funny thing is I made him let me use his stand on Saturday afternoon just so I could see deer. I didn't see squat from my own stand.
When am I going to get a chance at a nice buck?

Tonite I took my 8 yr old out with me and a nice 8 pointer came to the rattles. He gave me a nice standing broadside shot but it was a bit far for a bow shot so I decided not to take it. No use educating him, there will be tomorrow. Later I was mad at myself for not taking the shot.
As he walked out of my life I gave him a light clickity-clickity-clack on the horns and he stopped and turned. I thought he would come back but he turned away again. I ratled and stopped him 2 more times but he wasn't going to come back so I quit before he got too smart (maybe he already is). Oh well, better to see them than see nothing. I have a doe and a 4 pt so far this year but this 8 is driving me nuts (sound kinda like a musky?) |
