The mother nature has been kind enough and will most likely open up lakes again by the weekend. Does anyone from Chicago area( NW suburbs) has any idea where to get bigger suckers(10" and up)? Called all the fishing stores around and biggest I could find is the medium size, probably close to 7" or 8" . Any help would be appreciated. Or if by some miracle you have some I would pay double or even more. Thx

The only place I know of would be Triangle Bait Shop in Antioch....call first, they might have some. Corner of RT 83 and Grass Lake Road. Good luck out there.

Antioch is a bit too far from my house. Hour each way. I'm going to fish a local lake. As far as catching my own bait, that's actually what I did. Just came back from my local creek after setting a bait trap. Two other times were unsucceful but maybe with the warmer weather. Actually I would love to find out more about bait traps. What kind you use, food, location etc. Thanks for the replies.

they;re not that hard to catch, almost like carp fishing. egg sinker, long shank hook with small worms on there, make sure they bait stays on the bottom. I havent caught any specifically for muskie bait, though im considering catching a bunch of them this spring and keeping them in a cattle tank. here in northern illinois there is only one place to buy them and they get 12$+ A PIECE for them, id like to get a mess of them and maybe sell them for half price to our local muskie club members or give them to members taking kids out.
