| Just wondering what everyone uses for mounts for their larger screens. I just purchased a gen3 helix 12 si and am looking for ideas for the dash and up front. Thanks! |

Location: 31 | I mounted one 12" in dash and the other directly above using just the bracket that came with the unit, absolutely nothing more solid except in-dash. I really like that they are stacked close together for viewing both units, in easy reach, and while motoring it's as low as possible for the best field of vision.
I use the larger long arm RAM mount for my #3 unit that can be moved front/back deck depending on cast/troll, although they are not as solid as the mounts already mentioned in the post above, I already had this RAM mount and like that the unit can easily be folded flat to the deck when not in use... works 100% great for this but would not recommend a RAM mount for the dash if you do a lot of running on large water because they can sag.

Location: 31 | I just remembered something - if considering a direct dash mount.
It looks like the 12” Bird has the same issue of not having enough pre-drilled holes on the outside portion of their bracket like Lowrance, and even with the top unit being directly mounted to the dash there was still some unnecessary vibration due to only being attached in the center portion of the factory bracket.
To resolve the issue I drilled 2 extra bolt holes to the extreme outside edge of the bracket (for a total of 6), and this completely removed that little bit of unnecessary vibration.
I know that this install not main stream, and would guess that most people automatically assume installing on a mount while rigging their boat is the best way to go, but even with the shortest arm they still can stick up and block vision at the helm. They are also just that much further away from the kicker remote... heck, I even switched the main and kicker remote locations because I spend so more time trolling. That was an even sweeter move!
I can remember mentioning the direct bracket install to a good friend who owned the same model boat, he immediately said he never even considered that, but what if I wanted to chase the angle.
My reply was simply that I just mounted it at the same angle as the factory in-dash unit, and that in my previous boat when I had them on mounts I never changed the angle anyway. The most solid install possible, with enhanced user friendly performance for less $ was hard for him to argue with.

| I have Balzout mounts on my 12 inch Helix up front and one of the 10's on my dash. The only time they moved is when I loosened them to take them off at the end of the season. Great mounts...
