| Toying with upgrading locators for the SOLE purpose of using Autochart Live. Not interested in side or down scan, already have a unit for that, though its older. Helix 9 and 10 are physically the same size is the 10 worth the extra $ for larger screen? Also since I'm keeping my 800 series the Helix 7 is the same screen size as the 800 so I may dedicate the Helix to mapping only. Any opinions based on experience with units and Autochart??? |

Location: E. Tenn | The display on the 10 is 600 X 1024, and 480 X 800 on the 9. There is a bit of difference, but you'll have to look at both and decide for yourself. Like Kirby said, go with the biggest you can afford.
The autochart feature is kinda cool too.. If you intend to keep your mapped data, you'll need a zero line card ($100). It has the capacity to store more data than you'll be able to map in a lifetime. I've mapped a couple smallish lakes in WI, one here in TN, and another in NC. There's a lot of display options too..
Cabela's/BPS had a few G2N SI 10s and 7s deeply discounted ($1000/$700) Black Friday, in store purchase only, might want to keep an ear to the ground for an encore. Since you aren't looking for all the bells and whistles you might stumble on a similar deal.. Good luck! |

| I have a gen one 9 and a gen 2 10 and the screen sizes are pretty darn close. If you can live with a gen 2. Cabelas have them on sale at 1/2 price as Miket55 mentioned in his post |

| Gen3 the nine is smaller case than the 10, the 8 and 9" share the same case now. I would buy a side imaging unit and only use your 800 for map. |

I thought the same, and checked the Owner's Manual..found this. Nonetheless, I'd call customer service and get their take..

| hello, i have 2 helix 9, gps on both, di on one. units where bought from competeing stores 8 mths apart. both units have a major flaw. i get double and tripple echo whenver i approach a structure from deep to shallow . this gives me a false depth reading of water i'm appraching. ie, im trolling 20 depth water approach a shallow water hump that is 2-6 ft. sonar will indicate a depth of 17-30 ft . this effects your boat in new areas and your autochart. my auto chart has alot of false depths making it a stupid feature. Hummingbird has done nothing for me. even sent it out to themat a cost of $50 for repair and they admitted they did not even test it. i live in canada and have spoken to a few people that have the same issue. my 1.3 cents worth. be careful you might be disappointed like i am

Had that same issue last year as did a lot of other users.. The fix was a software update.. Update the software if you haven't already. If your sensitivity is set on the high side, you might turn that down a bit as well.. |

They both autochart. The 7 I have on the console is just fine, since I sit just a foot or two away from it and don't fish out of the back. On the bow, I have a dedicated small sonar unit such that the 7 is full screen GPS. Pretty ideal if you ask me. If you plan on split screening the one on the bow with GPS/Sonar, I would definitely go as big as you can. |
