Following the advice I recently received from a couple M1'ers, plus reading Cady's Bemiji/Cass Lake post, I boated a fat 42"er about an hour after dark this evening. I was casting a weighted-to-suspend 10" Jake, retrieving with a slow pull and brief pause along a weed break, and boom, there she was! Air temp was in the 20*s with wind, so when I went to grab the big Frabill it was all frozen, like a big-a$$ed spatula. Had to dip it in the lake a few times to get the basket to open. Fish went nuts at boatside when I was dipping the net, but the hooks held. Took a pic, must get the film to Wally-mart.

Thanks for the cold weather tips, boys!

Nice job Ranger!

Man, 20 degrees... That will get the hands a bit numb.

Good fishin',

Aw shucks. It weren't nuthin once I was told what to do.

I was never cold, actually, due to MANY layers with a Gortex shell. Had to wear a glove to palm the reel though.

Jake, I used your terrific bait (handmade, beatutifully balanced, custom paint job, like a giant Undertaker) for a full hour befor dark. Man that bait glides great, and I learned how to get it down to 8 or so feet below the surface.

Ranger -

How did you weight that Jake? I would like to give it a try.

Thanks -

Cool, glad shes working for ya

I tried to give it a darting suick action so you could get it down. My buddy used that same color type on da Ponds and in vilas a couple weekends ago, and it was hot. caught 3 fish and moved a tanker on X working it slow. wooooof it was a beast, the shoreline straight out from the landing on the eastside.
