My boats are going in for winterizing this week. The forecast says lows of 5 to 7 degrees Friday, and nothing better than upper 30's for the next ten days. I have to go on a road trip next week out west anyway, and can't believe it will be warm the week before rifle season. If it thaws, I guess I can get the 40HP Merc 4 stroke back on the water easily enough, but I'm not going to hold my breath.

2003 was a very good year up here. Sue and I tied the knot surrounded by our best friends ( Beav was my best man, and I wore his Muskie Tie, too), and Jim and the crew from Devenport Development and Patriot fed us like royalty. Fishing was terrific! Lots of action, some nice fish, and good times on the water. Zach, Don from Bass and Walleye Boats and I literally murdered the huge Green Bay walleyes. Sue got her first legal muskie, found out Rhinelander muskie League is alot of fun (a better group of anglers there could not be!), and graced the back of the boat more times than I fished last year. Keith and I hit the water more than we have in several years, and boated a couple very nice fish. Match fishing was fun, and we did OK. Wabigoon was great, and Sue is up for going back next year. Sabaskong Bay was a hoot, Keith and I will be back there too. Slamr and I had a great day on Pelican.  I caught and consumed a near record number of Gills and Crappies over the Summer with folks like my friend Jack, Mr. Bluegill, Sue, Keith and Brandy, Brian and Sarah and many more. Pat got me into some Coho and Winter Brown trout action from shore, and filled me up for great meals for the icy season.

2004 looks great. Esox69 and Rob are due next year to have a better trip, Theedz and Mr. Van Lieshout will definitely bring a cold front and clear skies, and Kim will catch the Bloody Mary fish in my boat, this time. Beav will heal up and get back up here, and Norm will catch that pig on Pelican, if things continue as well in 2004. I will be a fresh, new Grandpa, and Keith will be a Daddy. (SHEESH!! WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED, KEITH IS MY YOUNGEST!!)

My only regret is that the Hideout was empty most of the year. I guess folks just don't believe Sue and I when we tell them it is there, open, and ready for guests anytime they are in the Rhinelander/Minoqua/ Three Lakes/ Eagle River area. Maybe next year!

Looking forward to 2004, and I'm throwing another log on the Woodchuck here at Worrall's Hideout.

We are now in 'deer hunting' mode, and preparing for Ice Fishing. Winter isn't so bad...

Steve, I am glad my year is not over yet, been a good one so far. It was a pleasure to attend your wedding and the food was great. I only wish that slamr and I had caught a legal so we could bring it in for you and sue to kiss in the church and then let it go. Nobody wanted to bring in musky rods to do figure eights when you kissed your bride either.

Even though my year is not over I am looking forward to sport show seaon and have some things in place and researching other things to make my 2004 even better.

After being out all day Tues I emptied out the boat and covered her up with the charger on for one more burn on the batteries before the go on the trickle for the winter. She' really brought me a lot of joy this year. Even had some great fish of all species in her this year. Only 1 musky for me though. Gives me a lot of room for improvement next year, eh?

Depending on the Job situation I hope to see you all again at the Goon outing.

A note to everyone: there isnt a better set of hosts than Sue and Steve! If you're invited, for godsakes, just go! Great food, great accomidations, great company, and if its Friday night, great repeats of South Park. Other than breakfast (and Steve tell Sue that I don't like eggs no matter who is making them, but I did try....first time in about 10 years too) the best thing about staying at the hideout is that if you're going to fish with Steve, he likes to roll out a little later than most, hit the prime fishing times.....and you get to sleep in!
Glad you got the "bug" back this year for muskies, and I am still in for our tournament plans: roll to the start point at about 11AM "hey, is this where we launch?", it'll make us REAL popular. Thanks for letting me stay at the hideout, thanks for the bambi meat, and I'll see you tonight!

I am going out on Monday, November 10 for a 7 day outing on Lake of the Woods. This will be the last trip of the year before putting the boat away. I will have a full report when I get back.

Good luck everyone.

Like ghoti, I'll be out until I can't any longer. The lake I fish is in major draw down and most ramps are closed from lack of water. I was the only one out yesterday in the rain and fog and tied my best with this 44, it was very cool!

I'm not ready to call it quits yet--but man--down to single digits Friday night and a high of 28 on Saturday? Will I have the kahunas to launch on Saturday morning? I had a gameplan all drawn out because I know Saturday is the day for a big fish but, but...

You bet I will be on the water Saturday, thats what its all about right. Its times like those you realize that yeah we are a touch demented, and yeah those fish drive us to do things that a normal individual just doesn't do. Up here season ends way too soon and if I don't hit the water I will spend the entire hard water period kicking my own tail--and besides the fish are moving right now. And by the way, is that a warming trend I see in the long range forecast???
