Musky Mission Complete's 2019 Main Event on Cass Lake was yet again, a resounding success! All of us on the board are humbled by the Veterans who attended and the guides who donated their time and expertise. We are equally appreciative to everyone who donated items and services to our cause. We would like to render a crisp military salute to you all!

We also want to share a quick recap of the event: Guides and board members arrived at Cass Lake Lodge, on Cass Lake, MN, throughout the week in preparation for our Veterans. We were ready for our twelve Vets to arrive on the afternoon of Thursday, 12 September. After getting all the Vets settled into their assigned "barracks", we held a brief introduction for the Vets, guides and organizers. We then presented each Vet with some outstanding gift packages that included rods and reels for everyone, musky lures and boxes, and other various donated prizes. The Vets were overwhelmed with gratitude and could not wait to get out fishing! The weather was not exactly ideal for comfortable fishing, but that didn't stop our Vets or our guides from getting after it. Veteran Matthew Michaud caught a nice large mouth bass, Veteran Daniel Essig caught a feisty pike. The biggest fish EVER caught at our main event was then boated by Veteran Brendan Anderson. Brendan caught his first ever musky; an incredible 49 incher! Great fish Brendan! There were some other Vets who had action on muskies, which is always exciting. When everyone arrived back to camp, stories were exchanged and a great dinner of Sloppy Joe's was served.

The weather on Friday was equally rough with high winds and occasional rain showers. However, after a quick breakfast, we were back chasing muskies. The highlight of this day was with our first female MMC Vet, Darla Jacobs. Now Darla is not the most experience "fisherperson", yet she showed some of the most persistence and exuberance of any Vet we have had. She scored big with her first musky! Not to be outdone, her husband Steve Jacobs also caught his first musky this day! Veteran Matt Michaud had a BIG musky follow in, but not hit on the figure 8. He was quite excited about that experience! Other Vets had some musky action also. Veteran Wade Olson caught a pike, Veteran Jim Merzenich caught a pike and Veteran Todd Turner caught a bass. Guide Will Walkoviak caught a small musky and board member Matt Gyrion caught a nice pike. After a long tough day of fishing, the taco dinner was greatly appreciated by all.

We finally got some nicer weather on Saturday. Veteran Wade scored big time with a gorgeous 48 inch musky! Well done Wade! Darla continued to be the best fisherperson by catching a big bass and a nice pike. Veteran Joe Florian also got a nice bass. Veterans Greg Goar, Marco Salt and Stoney Clements all caught a pike. Last but not least, Brendan caught a small pike. Other nice musky sightings were had by most boats. What a great day had by all!!!!!!

Saturday night was a time for awards and recognition for all our Vets. This year, we were extremely fortunate to have four Veterans who were awarded the distinguished Purple Heart Medal. We were able to present them each with a special gift in honor of their incredible sacrifice to our country. Friday was capped off by yet another wonderful meal cooked by our staff. It was quite the operation, but we had great fried bluegill provided by Guide Shannon Greene. Thank you so much Shannon!Everyone had a great time celebrating catching, and losing, some nice fish.
After another quick breakfast on Sunday, everyone said their goodbye's and headed back to their various homes. The board members and staff celebrated yet another resounding victory for our main event. That lasted for about 5 seconds as we started strategizing for next years event...

We would like to recognize all of those who contributed to our success. Pulling this off takes a tremendous amount of time, energy and funds. The following people and/or businesses deserve great thanks and appreciation!
