| We had a significant cold front last week and along with it (as is often the case) lots of rain/wind. I really wanted to cast cranks (slammer/big game/cranes) 8" or 10", but in that wind it was backlash after backlash. I ended up tossing rubber or glide baits (and some weighted suicks when I didn't have to cast directly into the wind) since I was sick of picking out the backlashes every other cast.
Are there any (floating) cranks that have a bit more weight so they can be worked in these conditions?

| Likely don’t have nor can find them anymore but Pete Haupts old Ojibway baits were heavy and casted very well in wind. |

| I used one recent trip up to LOTW. It was an apex twitch, casted really well in the wind. |

Location: MN | Not super heavy, but the giant flatstick and ernie are both fairly aerodynamic. I think they cast better than the lighter small twitch baits or the larger profile 10" Jake/slammer. GFS runs shallower, ernie deep. Not a crank, but a posseidon is another good option in those conditions. |

| Thanks everyone - I did cast a Poseidon some. I forgot I have a few Drifter DDs that are a bit heavier as well. Normally just troll with them, but I bet they would have worked in those conditions. |

Location: Aurora | Keep it low when throwing into the wind, same as golf.
Or, consider split-ringing a rubber tail such as a bacon tail or slammer tackle fishtail on your favourite crank.
Adds weight and lands tail first. 10" squirrley jakes seem to do the same thing. Phantom rubber tails work well on smaller cranks too. |

Location: Land of the Musky | The 11" Mag Shad will cast like a bullet into the wind! Has no blowout speed either. Got it up to 18mph so far... Made out of high impact ABS too and they are super tough...

Location: Land of the Musky | We have had our Tackle Ind Super Cisco up to 34mph. I want to tie a cable to these and see how fast they can run before they blow out or self destruct!! ha ha or pull a cleat off my boat :p

Location: Michigan | Check out the Professor crankbait from Musky Bandit Baits. They have a shallower version and a deeper/heavier version. Both are weighted pretty well where the bait will stay upright and in a straight line when casted and not rool or flop around in the air. They also have a round lip and a square lip for different actions. Check them out on facebook if you're interested.

I guess they're similar in regards to being minnow-baits, but that's about the only similarities. The Professor is hand poured, hand painted, and all baits are individually tested. The czar is cheap plastic made overseas. |
