I know the subject is beat to death but haven’t thrown a jackpot in 10 years. Yesterday I did and we moved 8 fish on em. 2 were upper 40,s. Caught 1. Threw the mass marauder and got one blow up with hooks for about a second. (Don’t have a weagle but I’m assuming it’s about the same weight as the marauder) iI know the hooking ratio is never gonna be great but gonna buy some chemically sharp hooks for em. We threw all styles of topwater at em in same colors. The jackpot moved 7 of the 8 fish. Gonna put the shrink tube on the rear hook also today and try that. Wondering if I should go with a inward triple grip style or a wide gap. I have 5/0 Vmc 9617,s on it now. I’m also gonna order a weagle and paint it same color as the hot jackpot

All my jackpots wear a 6/0 with double split rings on the front and a 7/0 on the back. If they touch the bait you usually get them. I gave up on 5/0's with wtd topwater baits a long time ago and my hooking percentage went way up.

Nice thanks. Was wondering if 6/0 or 7/0 would be to heavy and screw up action. Gonna try that setup tmrw with 9617,s for now

A Weagle is going to sound and run a lot different than jackpot (and is much heavier than a mass). That said you should definitely have a weagle ... I’d also look to add a lee lures fish stick, has an action closer to a jackpot and they hook well. Everyone says wtd baits don’t hook well... that hasn’t been my experience, then again I never throw jackpots

"double split rings on the front" x2. I almost always try to use larger hooks if possible as well! Great post!!!

I shrink tubed the rear hook. 2 nice fish followed hard and don’t they they like that hook sticking out. Could of been just followers though. Gonna try agin today without shrink tube

Have to try changing the hooks. Had more action on the Jackpot than the Weagle, but very poor success with hook ups. Seemed to blow the lure out of the water.
