Where can I get some decent sized suckers near Minnetonka? I will most likely be landing at Gray's Bay.

Baldy,

Just so you know, it's illegal to transport suckers from Wisconsin to Minnesota and vice versa.

Wayzata Bait has suckers up to 18 inches
15748 Wayzata Blvd, Wayzata, MN 55391

Give the Poppie Rig A Try...

Thanks ddfenner. I had no intention of going to Hayward for my suckers.

I am interested by the Poppie Rig. It looks like quite the rig to me. I think I am going to give it a try.

How is the hookup percentage with that single hook? Any better or worse than normal quick strike rigs? Why not just use a treble? Just to stay MN legal without having to add a spinner?

The big gap in that hook spans what is available in most trebles, 4/0, 5/0 and so on... I want a hook that spans the diameter of a big muskies jawbone.... I am targeting the lower jaw region on hookset and if the big musky takes that 20 incher sideways or head first, I get it snagged into the lower jaw area... Use 80 pound braided line and rip that rod from 9 O'clock to 11:30 as hard as you can on hookset.. Keep that hookpoint razor sharp.

I don't like hooking or pinning to my suckers. It takes away from their actions and eventually kills them.

I've fished the same big minnow for 4 consecutive days without having to remove the harness...

So, is it a fail safe rig? I don't think this is one with regards to quickstrike rigged suckers...

Mr. Fenner -

Where can I get some of those large J hooks without having to buy the whole kill rig?
