| Looking to tie myself some bucktails, wondering what everyone's top producing colors are, blade and skirt. |

| This changed my perception
We had a guy in our muskies Inc chapter that had background and career in optics and color and he also was a hard core musky guy
He took a large sheet and put all the combos he had which was a lot and he imposed all kind of light spectrums over them, and also took images. ultraviolet,infrared,grey,blue,dark,light and others and the combo that stood out the most in almost all was chartreuse blade and black skirt and it was very noticeable. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | Probably not if it moves it's food, but it's important that I can see it. The first muskie spinners had no bucktail only a treble hook some had a few feathers on the hook. i think the bucktail or tinsel just gives a bigger offering but the vibration of the blade is what draws them in. That said I once watched a muskie move about 8 feet to intercept a bucktail as it landed must have thought it was a bird. Who really knows anything, after 40 years all I really know is that some things work sometimes. |

| It's fair to say about color, it is the most over thought subject in musky fishing. Do u see how many color combinations are offered on some bucktails? Come on, man. Kdawg |

Location: MN | Top tier for me:
- black skirt + black nickel blades
- black/chart/silver skirt + one chart blade, one gold blade
- purple skirt + gold blades
Also caught on:
- black skirt + nickel blades
- black skirt + chart blades
- black skirt + painted black blades
- black or black/orange skirt + orange blades |

Location: Elroy, Wisconsin | HorseHunter has got it right. Every theory I have ever had has been proven wrong and wothless most of the time.. The only thing I have learned since exclusively fishing Muskies since 1967 is that Muskies live and bite what makes them happy.

| I could get by with two:
Black skirt, nickel blades
Black skirt, orange blades
The fish don't care what color it is. They do seem to gravitate towards the oldest most beat up lures in the box, though. Shiny new stuff? Not so much. I think beat up blades and bent wire is the key to a good bucktail. |

Location: Alexandria, MN | Any color works as long as it's orange and black (orange blades, black skirt). Orange or gold blades have been my top producers. Gotta love a black skirt

Location: oswego, il | Alot of it depends on where you fish. Silver black, chartruse black in low light on dark water. White blades seem to.work.well on algae bloomed water. A buddy of mine last year kept a pink/black mepps on until he had to put another new one on. Went on a tear with it all over. |

Orange and Black
Nickle and Black or Gold and Black
Firetiger or some bright off the wall
Go with 8's or 9's to start and then expand sizes and colors from there. |

Black blades and skirt. I've heard it said that a black skirt with a nickel blade will catch any fish in Ohia. m. m |

Location: Contrarian Island | I'm in the color doesn't matter camp, it's the timing and placement of the cast. If a guy has confidence in the bait he has on good things happen.. it's fun to have lots of shiny lures tho!

| Black and nickel if I had to pick one, nut with muskies it's really hard to tell if one color is better than another on any given day. I've had days smallie and walleye fishing days where color was a clear difference. One time fishing smallies, Changed colors, got bit. Friend with me had exact size husky jerk with a similar color - couldn't get a bite. He then Changed to a spinnerbait that was white with some pink in the skirt and pink jig head. We both caught fish rest of the day. Only had that kind of clear emphasis on color that one time, but it was very clear that white/pink was what they were keying in on for that afternoon. Musky populations are too small to really get that level of confirmation. |
